Police watch as man dies in motorway crash

A man died early on Monday morning after a truck collided with his parked car on a motorway in eastern Sweden, with police witnessing the event live on video.

The accident occurred just before 5:30am on the E4 motorway when a truck was driving northwards to Uppsala and hit a silver BMW that had stopped.

Stockholm police have explained the event as an accident, following the breakdown of the car.

“There was something wrong with the car and it sat still while the owner waited for help, and a few minutes later a small truck came and crashed into the unmoving car,” said Anna Johansson of the Stockholm police to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Meanwhile, police watched the incident occur as the BMW had stopped directly in front of a traffic monitoring camera.

“Someone saw from the corner of their eye that something happened on the screens. When my colleague looked up, they saw that a truck had crashed into the car,” Johansson told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.

The truck driver is in a state of shock, though was not injured in the collision, and helped the emergency crew in the rescue attempts.

Meanwhile, traffic has been delayed along the E4 as one lane has been closed to the public.

title is misleading, suggests that police just stood by and watched when they could have stopped the accident. It should be Police witness accident, etc.. :) just sayin

Yes...yet another example of deliberately writing misleading headlines with shock value to get more people to click on a story and increase web traffic. More web traffic = higher advertising revenues

That is so cynical of the police!

@Frobobbles

Did you even read the article? What would you have the police do differently?

@The Local... this is why it is dishonest to write misleading headlines... a lot of people do not read the article and the headline becomes their "truth".

Yeah... the article title has very little to do with its content. Someone has failed hard.

"The Local" loves their "grabber" headlines.. they are doing what headline writers have been doing since printed headines.. and pretty much unchanged in the industry... It is supposed to catch the readers attention even if the details are not as implied by the headline... the headline IS true, just not the context... but the headline caught you... making it a successful headline.

I passed at 05:36 and saw the horrific state of the car. The whole back half was completly crushed like a harmonica. Somehow I thought the person(s) survived as the front was intact and 3 people where standing around. The "small" truck as described looked actually like a 40 ft (12m) truck to me...

The real issue was that the car stopped just before the bridge and there is neither a emergency lane nor a way to escape on that spot. In other words - the driver was trapped and in this case aparently doomed!
