Sweden to offer prostitutes sick pay

Prostitutes in Sweden who pay taxes should have the right to sick pay, according to new guidelines being drawn up by the National Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan).

In Sweden, while it’s illegal to buy sex, it is not illegal to sell it.

But the social insurance agency has previously lacked clear rules outlining what social benefits are available to prostitutes who are registered as sole proprietors and pay taxes in Sweden.

Often, prostitutes who register with Swedish tax authorities claim they are working in body treatments and health care, sometimes making it hard for staff with the social insurance agency to know how to process benefits claims from prostitutes.

But now the social insurance agency has promised to clarify the rules.

“This situation has been considered to be a gray area, but I don’t think it should be. If you're not doing anything illegal, I think it should be relatively clear,” said Joakim Jarnryd of the social insurance agency to Sveriges Radio (SR).

“Prostitutes in this case are engaged in no illegal business and if this person has declared a legitimate income and has proof of a registration with the tax authorities, then we’ll treat this like any other economic operator.”

While it is impossible to know how many people in Sweden use their sole proprietorship companies for prostitution, Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) expert Pia Blank Thörnroos explained how the new rules would function legally.

“If someone has an income from the selling of sex then it’s taxable, as it’s legal to sell sex. We’ve solved it so that these people can submit their income declarations together with everyone else in May and report their incomes. If one wants to avoid arrears, the taxes can be paid at the tax office,” she told SR.

Does the government really think these girls are declaring all of their income? I doubt people pay for sex with credit cards or fakturas so I assume it's mainly under the table?

How can they declare a legitimate income if it's illegal to buy sex? Even if it's legal to sell sex, it involved a one-sided crime to get the income.

BS regulation that needs to be overturned, just legalize it. The additional tax-income would really help the economy.

I also wonder how they get paid if it is illegal to pay. Strange.

Is aiding and abetting crime a crime in Sweden?

Since it's illegal to buy sex, isn't selling it abetting a crime? There cannot be one without the other; i.e., there can be no purchase without a seller, but these are rhetorical questions. Religion has no logic, only dogma, and in Sweden Feminism has ceased being a movement for good and become a religion.

Gals? Don't believe me? Then why do Swedish nurses, a predominately female profession, have one of the lowest pay scales in the modern world? An American nurse makes 2X that of a Swedish nurse and pays half the taxes. Where are the Feminist? Why aren't they raising holy heck? My answer, of course, is that they really don't care as much about real issues for women as they care about political power issues with respect to males.

I am a cocaine dealer with a really bad headache, will they pay for me to sit in a dark room and take a day off?

There is only so far you can twist your mind before it snaps. Will it be a collective event or a domino effect?

All the fuzz began with feminist Ulrika Messing. The office for paying sick pay to the prostitutes will be located in the parliament.

What if the prostitute gives me crabs? Can I collect?

"In Sweden, while it's illegal to buy sex, it is not illegal to sell it."

common sense suggests encouraging or assisting a crime is itself a crime.

Yeah, Svensksmith you are on target. I personally have avoided this particular Swedish service market for various reasons but I am curious as to what consumer protection regulations have been put in place. Are they labeled like strawberries that they are grown in Sweden or are there unscrupulous distributors that try to pawn off cut rate imports as genuine Swedish? As I look it over where is the label? Are there special organic or Eco-friendly labels that I should be aware? What has the Riksdag done to protect the innocent Swedish consumer? What is the refund policy? If it arrives damaged am I refunded the return fee? How well have the 'feminists' and leftists really thought out this totally absurd prostitution policy? This whole situation only makes sense to the typical leftist Swedish Politician. -Paul

What about all the other criminals? Terorist, drogadicts and so on, should they also qualify? No wonder how the working class is always screwed up here..

someone needs to put in a tax deduction claim for services rendered !

All professional women require a middle man to collect the money as they cannot collect personally!
12:58 July 6, 2012 by dinty
Why not? In the USA our politicians get sick pay, all year round.

Just do a Google search on "Stockholm escorts" and you`ll see how many young women are engaged in prostitution ....another "politically correct " suggestion from the Swedish moral left . Hope I have not aided & abetted by giving an internet link..but only as a suggestion ! That there are so few relative heroin addicts on the streets shows how the social services are doing a good job ?
