Woman protests 'sexy' sausage ad removal

Published: 12 Jul 12 10:31 CET | Print version

A local woman and Christian Democrat youth leader has protested the removal of a sexually-suggestive food stand advertisement in southern Sweden by taking to the streets with red lips and painted nails to deliver her own sausages.

The “offensive” advert, which included a close-up picture of a hotdog, two hands, and two red lips wrapped around the tip of the sausage, was taken down on Wednesday after a member of the local council responded to a complaint by the municipality's gender expert.

This move prompted Felicia Lundqvist from Uppsala to protest against the local municipality in Simrishamn, which she claims is "wasting" tax money by employing a gender expert.

She stood in a busy square in the town with a sign over her chest which read: “Felicia’s hotdog stand. Suck on that gender experts!”

“People can either get a sausage or pose with me,” she told the Aftonbladet newspaper, adding that she found "nothing to be offensive" about the original advert.

Gender studies expert Britten Dehlin was the expert who had taken issue with the street vendor's initial picture, causing its removal.

“This is a sexualized picture. A prime example of an poorly-thought through act and a traditional gender approach with the aim of drawing in customers,” she told the local Ystads Allehanda newspaper at the time.

Lundqvist, however, was shocked that politicians could remove an ad for reasons of “gender equality” without even reporting it first to the advertising ombudsman.

“Is it truly right, looking at questions of fairness on such a small scale?” she asked the paper, adding that she had not reacted to the picture personally – only the backlash from gender experts.

“It could just have likely been a man with red lips and red nails in the picture.”

“I’ve read all the article comments and 98 percent of them are negative that this issue has even been brought up, they think it’s ridiculous that tax money has been spent on such questions,” she told the paper.

Furthermore, Lundqvist claims that she can’t understand why gender experts are given such lofty platforms to speak, claiming that Simrishamn's gender expert's salary should be donated towards preschools in the area instead.

Why is it a woman on the picture, why not a man touching the sausage with his lips?
11:10 July 12, 2012 by fikatid
Good for the youth who protests against the removal of the ad.

I 1000% agree with her on why

""wasting" tax money by employing a gender expert."

They should get rid of the gender expert, who's nothing but a scam artist. The gender expert needs to get laid.

Simrishamn (Sweden's Sexy Sausage City) has one of the highest percentage of 65+ers in the country. No wonder these old people get all worked up about sausages. Simrishamn is dead but won't lie down. Put a glass dome over it and call it a museum.

right move... for the wrong reasons.

this has nothing to do with gender equality (I realize the average swedish feminist would disagree).

"sausage" sucking should take place in the bedroom, not in the streets.

Actually I find quite disturbing the discrepancy between the sexualized environment we live in and the high number of people being single (I do realize this is a subjective view, maybe someone have figures on swedish singles vs couples ? )

Sometimes I wonder if it's not better living in a less progressive society, where the man can still get a shag, than living with "half naked" women all around, whom you can't touch.

@klubbnika: it's a woman on the picture because men enjoy a woman sucking a sausage. a woman don't find a sausage-sucking man appealing. if they were, you would see those kind of advertisement.

I am shocked the municipality of Simrishamn is so undermanned when it comes to gender experts. Other, more thrusting municipalities are far better equipped. The Social Democrat party recommends a minimum ratio of one gender expert to every ten residents. The Simrishamn politicians must be ashamed to share a sauna with politicians from other, better equipped municipalities, who must point and giggle at their gender expert deficiency. I've heard some Stockholm municipalities have employed multi-cultural gender experts, who are absolutely …. huge.

Simrishamn must quickly employ more gender experts to satisfy their gender needs. Doctors should be sacked, and local libraries closed, to ensure the community is properly tooled up.

By the way, what is the collective noun for gender experts? I suggest a bulge, but I'm open to better offers.

""sausage" sucking should take place in the bedroom, not in the streets"

Is that actually a fact? This rule should apply to EVERYTHING then. Naked place is also in the bedroom. Let's remove all suggestive ads for cremes, cosmetics, sun protection, vacations, perfumes.

Let's remove ANY suggestion of sexuality from the streets. I mean LITERALLY!

Why would women walk around with mini skirts? What are they suggesting by that? How about high heels? Why would they like people to think that they have longer legs? How about females who allow to themselves to show the form of their suggestive breasts under the shirts???

I have a brilliant idea. Let's wrap all the women in black bags. We could even call it something. Short and catchy. How about burba? Or burpa... something in that area.

Let's ban lipstick and eyeliners. Why would females suggest stuff by applying them? Oh. Let's go with the above and put a bag that would cover their faces! Otherwise, when a normal man sees a woman eating a banana on the street, it would be OBVIOUS that she is making a suggestion! God, I think I am on the right and unexplored previously track here! Just do not steal my start-up idea here.

Hey Uncle,

Your examples about nakedness and bananas miss my point. it's not about nakedness: it's about sex.

a woman (or a man, this is not about gender) eating a banana is no issue, a woman blowing a banana is.

same thing for nakedness, for example, a woman breast feeding, or maybe tanning naked on a beach would be no issue.

I hope my examples gives a clear picture of what I'm trying to say.

your second idea as I understand it, is a slightly different issue. it's about "social cohesion" or "social standard", which is obviously relative to the society we live in. while the view of a woman in a burka in Sweden is quite unpleasant to me , a woman with a thong showing and without bra would be seen as a prostitute in most countries. So it's all about our social standard (individual and those of our society).

but you can hardly deny that this picture is of sexual nature.

@will008

I think that you are confused and this is you who misses my point. So I will drop the sarcasm.

Sexuality is an attraction, as food and money. It is what DRIVES us to do stuff. Religon made sexuality unpure, as it did WOMEN unpure by definition a long time ago. Beautiful women were burned by Inquisition for the bare fact that they were "too inviting" for diabolic thoughts.

Women are unpure creature with a status between a donkey and a man in sharia and some african christian countries BECAUSE of religious views.

The entire point is that there is an extremely thin line between sucking and eating, as between eating and showing mouth in general. A commercial that SUGGESTS sucking, kissing and drying lips with a tongue is not unpure if you live in a modern society and not in middle ages that some countries are still stuck in.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with suggestions of sexual nature, as long as you do not actually show porn because paradoxally, female (and male) sexuality is a sign of FREEDOM, while puritanic hiding of the existence of sexual attraction is a first sign of slavery, unacceptance and condemnation. It is not for nothing the symbol of freedom for women was BURNING the bra, instead of wrapping themselves in more clothes.

So agreeing, that there should be a clear definition of porn (children protection only), SUGGESTIONS of sex should be encouraged.
15:54 July 12, 2012 by Will008
@Uncle,

I'm stil unsure of what you're saying.

is it: #1 we leave in a free society, so the sexual attraction between two people should not be condemned.

or are you saying, #2 sex is a sign of freedom, therefore we should live in a sexualized environmnent.

I think most people in the West would agree with #1, but I have my doubts about #2.

Moreover why this distiction with pornography? why is it bad according to you, and why would that be less of a sign of freedom than non-porn sex?

Also why a distinction between suggestion of sex and plain sex? I am not talking about flirting, I'm talking about blowing a banana for example, why would it be more acceptable to fake a blowjob than actually doing it?

If I should not be offended by someone simulating a blowjob in public, then I should not be by the actual performance.

And if someone is offended by seeing two strangers having sex in front of him, he would be by the view of the suggestion of the sexual act (again the banana)... which brings us back to what I was saying about "social standards and cohesion".

and to conclude more lightly:

"Sometime my sister, she show her vazhïn to my brother Bilo and say "You will never get this you will never get it la la la la la la." He behind his cage. He cries, he cries and everybody laughs. She goes "You never get this." But one time he break cage and he "get this" and then we all laugh. High five!"

I wonder how this has affected the hotdog stand business ?

To all the militant feminists that Sweden is way too full of: suck my sausage! That's about as much as I care about your constant whining about everything.
17:11 July 12, 2012 by Uncle
willl008

First of all - high five on your last paragraph. "Yeees. I like"

Secondly - what is a "sexualized environment"? The commercials with food create "nutritional environment", commercials with cars create "vehicular environment"? I really do not get why light erotica is different.

In regards to difference between suggestive sex and porn. (Since as you mention, apparently it is equally offensive for you).

In this case, a famous gesture of douchebags of a double-gun shot at you (combined with a smile and an exclamation of "Hey, you, you dawg!") should be as offensive and chocking for you and your children as observing homicide with splashes of blood and brain on a sidewalk.

Or the difference between a racist joke about KKK and ACTUALLY observing a lynch. Or displaying perfume as an attractive drug for the opposite gender vs ACTUALLY adding rape drug to someone's drink.

Get the parallel? Shall I get deeper into explanation about porn and erotic suggestions?

Listening to you, one should ban every display of erotic nature from push-up bras to Madonna herself.

The funny thing is that "sexualization" of females is usually opposed by women, who can get male attention only through hate and despise.

Maybe they should come up with a sexy taco ad to satisfy the women protester's.
10:54 July 13, 2012 by mnphoto87
I am wondering two things - so you want to sell hot dogs by relating them to oral sex, why not just show a real picture of oral sex, then photoshop a hot dog in place of the male appendage? Maybe then people would be less confused and offended.

Also, the Christian Democrat counter protester came all the way from Uppsala to Simrishamn just to fight for a random hot dog stand's right to use this picture? That's weird. Really weird.
