Several rapes reported in small Swedish town

Published: 15 Jul 12 11:06 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/42034/20120715/

Early on Sunday morning police were alerted to the third outdoor rape reported in less than 24 hours in the small Swedish town of Varberg.

A woman in her twenties was raped in a park in central Varberg, according to local police.

"There's currently no reason to believe that these rapes are connected in any way. More like the other way around," said the Halland police force's duty officer Jan Kapteijn to local newspaper Hallands Nyheter.

The rape occurred sometime before 4am, according to Hallands Nyheter.

Police officers have spent the night attempting to secure possible traces that the attacker may have left, and the woman has been examined by doctors.

"I don't know much more about the case right now," said the duty officer early on Sunday morning.

Varberg is a small town of less than 30,000 inhabitants, but despite three rapes reported and a weekend full of drunkenness and fights, Varberg's police still think the weekend was calmer than they'd expected, they said to Hallands Nyheter.

"We can't be naive", said Kapteijn.

As a summer resort, Varberg fills with tourists during July. This weekend has been especially crowded and raucous due to the Wheels & Wings fest held in Varberg.

"We usually say that in July every day is like Saturday in a city like Varberg," Kapteijn said.

Rape is a very serious matter and I don't intend to minimize that BUT,

"weekend full of drunkenness and fights" and a few folks running naked in public ended up getting caught in the wrong bed and needed an alabi for their so called signifigant others,

it's the swedish way, even the police don't take it that seriously.
14:06 July 15, 2012 by Migga
If you read the leftish media the rapes are blamed on summer, festivals, events, conserts, drunkeness and everything else except for the guilty perpetrators.
19:11 July 15, 2012 by strixy
@Migga

I fully agree with you. It's disgusting.
19:44 July 15, 2012 by Rod Munch
Agreed with Migga and Strixy. It's a pretty sad attempt by the media to obfuscate what is really happening in this country.

Oh the irony....

Sounds to me that Sweden's unconditional love of alcohol has a lot to do with these rapes....yet pot smoking is akin to heroin use according to the government here.
21:33 July 15, 2012 by muscle
perhaps the rapists might not be even drunk!!!! Even if drunkeness is to be blamed, well then do something about it.

What is the definition of bieng drunk anyway ????... If just the consumption of alcohol is drunkenness, well then tommorow anyone can just drink a can of bear, rob a bank or kill someone and then claim.. Oh sorry i was drunk! :S

Rape is never good in whatever disguise u put it.

I am sorry. Statistics are showing that rapes happen more often under influence of alcohol than in any other condition. What is the problem to say that?

In addition, excluding the case where a girl was raped in a park. Does anyone know the circumstances of the other rapes? Seriously. Is there no chance that these rapes were the case of "I was too drunk and you should have known it, although you also were drunk"?

There are HUNDREDS of cases like this that are dropped by the court in Sweden. As a matter of fact, Sweden is nr.1 in REPORTING rape, but is average in EU in CONVICTING for rape. That shall mean something.

Mere reporting a rape does not mean that the rape indeed happened. Courts shall decide that.
00:35 July 16, 2012 by Migga
Statistics show that in every case there is a rapist commiting the rape. Focus on that issue.

A person should be able to stumble around drunk and dressed in whatever way they want and not be the victim of a crime. We must create a society where people identify with eachother and if someone finds a person in a vurnerable state they would want to take care of that person, not take advantage of that person.
01:59 July 16, 2012 by philster61
The question is why are there more rapes? Was it like this 20 years ago? When I first came here, I hardly ever heard of Swedish women ever saying no to sex let alone against their will. In fact most occasions of intimacy Swedish women actually instigated sex. Have times changed that much? How many of these reported cases are actually rape?

but,

you can't rape the willing!

21 rapes and/or attempted rapes reported within three days: http://www.expressen.se/nyheter/valdtaktsvag-i-sverige--21-fall-pa-tre-dagar/

Fyi, there's a free, pink, safe-for-women taxi (Jentetaxi) in Oslo this summer as part of an effort to combat outdoor rapes, most-to-all of which are committed by immigrant men.

http://www.dagbladet.no/2012/06/13/nyheter/taxi/voldtekt/natteravner/22087033/

Please remember also that Sweden's rationed health care has a shortage of nurses trained to properly help rape victims. Rape victims are often not offered STD tests or invited for follow-up health care visits or therapy.
17:31 July 16, 2012 by EmployedProfessional
#18;

Most rapes in Sweden, are actually committed by white, native males, just a fact.
18:23 July 16, 2012 by S.J.
Whether rapes are commited by immigrants or natives doesnt make it any more tollerable. Statistics for the sake of statistics are hardly the point to be making on such a subject.

"A person should be able to stumble around drunk and dressed in whatever way they want and not be the victim of a crime"

Actually, MOST of crimes are by known person and mostly the reason is behavior and not a dress-code of the person.

I was writing about hundreds cases dismissed where a female DID invite or DID NOT object sex and then reported them as rape because "I did not know what I was doing". Again, these are the majority of cases where reported crimes and convicted criminals amounts differ.

Hundreds of females in Sweden have second thoughts about sex and dilute the gravity of real rape cases to other women. It is coming to a situation where a guy must have a lawyer present during sex, as well as "Alcolock" attached to his penis.
19:23 July 16, 2012 by libertarianism
Re 19, Do you have a source for this? I thought I had heard that the Swedish state does not compile and/or release such rape stats. Also, in regard to Oslo, I didn't mention simply rape, but *outdoor* rape where a woman (man) is attacked by an unknown man. At least the Norwegians have the balls and compassion to talk about the problem and take action to keep women safe.

Re 20, The point is that it is an abuse of human rights for the state to use MY tax money to import, house, feel, clothe, etc. men who attack and rape primarily women (primarily of western culture). Women have a right to exist in the public sphere without being stalked, attacked, and called whores, etc.
19:42 July 16, 2012 by Uncle
Migga

I just re-read what I wrote and obviously the REASON for rape is always the existence of a rapist. What I meant is that rapists are REASONING the rape with an excuse of the victims behavior.

Now in regards to stumbling drunk around town. It is as criminal as saying that my kid has a RIGHT to go into the van of every guy who offered candy to him and actually get candy.

Stumbling half naked around town should not be a factor that relieves the rapist from liability, however the chances to get "drive-by" raped are increasing and a reasonable person should understand it. There ARE sexual predators out there. Even an electric chair will not eradicate them, as this is a mental state that is for some reason not defined as a disease. These predators are triggered by certain behavior and this behavior is not a secret. While the courts should not let them stay with the society, they ARE THERE.

So as a small child understands the dangers connected to adults, women should understand them too, as even a rough sentence to a rapist will not fix the woman after the crime happened.
20:11 July 16, 2012 by EmployedProfessional
#22,the facts are there, just ask a few honest cops.

Other resourses are available.

I'm not excusing anyone here who has ever commited such a horrible offence,I just want to make it clear that this is a cultural problem that pre-dates the arrival of most immigrant groups, like the drinking problems.

It's historical!

I also have friends who have been raped, guess who didn't do it!
11:54 July 17, 2012 by Reason abd Realism
All women should be allowed to carry a high pressure can of pepper spray (sold as bear repellent in hunting shops in Germany, for example), to protect themselves against rape, along with a short course on how and when to prepare to use it, or actually use it, for self defense.
15:34 July 17, 2012 by bcterry
I can't believe how many of you idiots are justifying rape by blaming the victim.

I don't give a sxxx if a woman is stumbling around in the middle of the night, drunk out of her mind, and buck naked, that in no way is a signal to go ahead and abuse her, if ANYTHING, it should be a signal to HELP HER, and make sure she he gets home, or to a safe place.

Judging by this thread, it appears that REAL men are in short supply these days.
17:23 July 17, 2012 by Rod Munch
---I can't believe how many of you idiots are justifying rape by blaming the victim.---

It's always the asylum seeker/refugee crowd who is doing that on here. Rather than own up to their problem, they instead try to justify it. And then people are called "racist" for not wanting them here. Go figure...
01:18 July 18, 2012 by philster61
bcterry

Don't overdo the bravado, get off the pedestal you're on. Swedish women have undergone some sort of metamorphosis in the last ten years or so. They have been accorded privileges that would make even US women envious. It is now so easy to point the finger at a man and scream rape in Sweden now. How difficult can it be for a man to defend himself when every finger is pointing at him? Rape in Sweden has an entirely different definition here. In the rest of the western world is is defined as a act of violence. Here it is defined as even a crime of thought...You even think about it , you have as good as done it.

But then again, the day Sweden criminalized prostitution, it was predicted that rape would soar. Comes as no surprise to me.

The liberal society Sweden used to be is a thing of the past.
07:45 July 18, 2012 by bcterry
@ philster61,

Apparently there's an epidemic of those "crimes of thought", not only in Sweden, but throughout the rest of Europe.
