Northern Sweden hit by summer 'snow storm'

Thursday afternoon saw thunderous storms in northern Sweden, with some areas covered in a blanket of white when the downfall subsided.

“It was totally cool. I could have gone out and made a really big snowman if I wanted,” said 23-year-old resident and storm witness Andrée Norberg to the Aftonbladet newspaper.
“It’s hard to believe that it can snow in July!”
Norberg was at home chatting online with friends when the storm occurred and couldn’t believe his ears when he heard something crashing against the roof of his house.
“My friends even heard it through my headset. We have a tin roof on the house so it sounded terrible,” he told the paper.
The storm continued for several hours and the town was left whitened.
However, Lovisa Andersson of Meteorological agency SMHI was not surprised by the unusual weather, claiming the downfall was just a strong dose of hail.
“When strong cumulonimbus clouds come together with thunder there is often hail too, even if it sounds weird for the month of July. But we actually had hail in Stockholm earlier this week too,” she told the paper.
Meanwhile, other parts of Sweden are suffering with bad summer weather, with parts of Sweden still marked with a class one warning from SMHI and a minor tornado hitting Varberg in Swedens west on Thursday.
