Menni guilty of funding Stockholm bombing: jury

Nasserdine Menni, accused of being an accomplice to Stockholm suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab, has been found guilty by a Scottish jury of funding the attack.

During the trial, which ended in Glasgow on Wednesday, Menni denied working with Abdulwahab, who blew up his car and then himself in a botched attack near a busy shopping street in Stockholm on December 11, 2010, killing himself and injuring two people.

After a 11-week trial and a two day deliberation, the jury announced that they found Menni guilty of funding the Stockholm attack.

The verdict on the conspiracy to murder charge was, however, not proven.

Menni stood accused of acting with Abdulwahab and others to further terrorist aims by criminal and other means, including the use of explosive devices, the Glasgow High Court in Scotland heard.

He also allegedly transferred money to Iraqi-born Abdulwahab, communicated with him repeatedly by telephone, online and in person between 2003 and 2010.

Menni was also charged with fraudulently accessing three bank accounts and of claiming benefits and pretending to be an asylum-seeker in order to stay in Britain.

According to the BBC, police found the accused to be in possession of a number of bank accounts in various names through which he sent funds to Abdulwahab with the purpose to fund the attack.

The money helped pay for Abdulwahab's trips abroad for the "purposes of Jihad" and the Audi car used in the bombing, according to the broadcaster.

Menni was under suspicion by the police for some time before he was finally arrested in March. He has categorically denied being Abdulwahab’s accomplice.

Abdulwahab, a 29-year-old whose family fled from Iraq to Sweden in 1991, had lived with his wife and three children in Luton, in north London before the botched attack, where he had allegedly befriended Menni.

I hope they dont spend tons of money keeping this kind of scum in prison. They need to just run over him with a car and be done with him.

but, Hell probably claim to be sick, let out on medical leave like the Lockerbe bomber and become a hero.

Why is attempted murder not treated the same as murder?? Just because the creep is a failure at killing, the intent and mind set is the same.

@godnatt

In fact it is only you, Abdulwahab and Breivik who have good understanding of Islam but the rest of the Muslims who account for 1 billion living persons, do not know what they are doing!

Yes, me and say for example the 80%+ of Egyptian Muslims who believe in death for apostasy and stoning for adultery and who vote the Muslim brotherhood into power. I think they get it too.

Unfortunately for equivocating snakes like yourself there are actually non-partisan sources (Pew, for example) doing opinion polls in the ME.

Many are happy to explain their widespread positive opinions towards religious violence, misogyny, terror and anti-semitism in huge swaths of that part of the world if someone simply asks.

Google "pew stoning egypt" for starters... There's plenty more.

Or one can simply talk to a Jew in Malmo if they can find one.

I know it's your sweetest dream that political correctness will stop people from looking at actual numbers to maintain the illusion that it's always just "one bad apple" and not tens of millions of who hold frighteningly radical beliefs that are diametrically opposed to everything the West values.

Unfortunately for you things are swinging in the opposite direction these days.

Good luck trying to keep your finger in the dam.

Dear Iraniboy: Mohammad was a successful combination of Charlie Manson, Bernie Madoff and Jim Jones... You should read Ali Dashti's 23 years (specially 4th chapter). If Islam was such a great Idea, why it had to spread by invading other countries (including our Iran?)

Fundamentalists of all religions are potentially dangerous. Unfortunetly Islam has way more than their share. All religious texts may be interpreted in destructive ways but the Koran makes it very easy. IMHO separation of religion and state are critical for any chance of a civil society. This is unacceptable to most Muslims. They will try again and again for their own Sharia law in Sweden . Non Muslim Swedes must become Dhimmi to satisfy them.

This is not a crime of individuals and the courts should not treat it as such. This is "organized" crime or "state sponsored terrorism" even if the "state" is really several middle eastern countries with a rogue religion operating across boarders.

Typical laws and police methods are not adequate to truly prevent such organized crime. Military intervention and the colateral civilian deaths and injury are potentially needed.

There is a need to stamp out the Jahad, religious fanatics around the world and make all who contemplate supporting or joining them understand that doing so will endanger their personal life, the life of their family and the life of their neighbors and friends.

Civilization needs to stamp out Jahad or potentially face a new dark age. This is and can not be dealt with using traditional police and laws design to stop individuals from criminal acts.

Coming to Sweden as an asylum seeker and then plotting against it is just like spitting in the dish in which one eats.

I hope Muslims adopt to the world. The influence of media has more than ever convinced them that they are "the feared" ones. For exploiters, it is just an arrangement of money and a so called feared person to plan such attacks.

Muslims buy new clothes, new cell phones, new "whatever not" but are reluctant to abandon old ideas. The propaganda has bonded their identity with these beliefs. Ironically there are other religious extremists but it is the number that counts.

PEACE.
