A 26-year-old woman was crushed to death at a paper mill in Iggesund in northern Sweden on Saturday evening after getting stuck between two rolls of paper.

The woman was moving a roll of paper weighing in at 20 tonnes and was squeezed hard, dying immediately.

According to police reports the woman's unfortunate demise may have been caused by her pushing the wrong button on the remote control.

A co-worker was a witness to the accident but was unable to prevent it, according to the local Hela Hälsingland daily.

Several other colleagues made attempts to revive the woman while they waited for an ambulance, but to no avail.

When the ambulance arrived, the woman was declared dead.

While the machine was turned off after the accident it was due to be put back into service on Sunday.

"It is important to resume routines to divert the mind," said spokesperson Staffan Sjöberg at Iggesund Paperboard to the newspaper.

The accident will be investigated by Gävleborg police and the Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket).

The woman is reported to have been employed as temporary summer staff at the factory, which is owned and run by Swedish pulp and paper concern Holmen Paper.

Brutal way to go. When I was a kid, my friend's family owned the town newspaper and we would play in the production facility now and then. I remember those rolls of paper were like round boulders and we knew clearly the danger of fooling around with them.

Holmen Paper should be held accountable for this. No summer temp worker should be moving 20 ton paper rolls. Simply irresponsible. I too used to work at a paper factory and it is a very dangerous business. There are so many things that can go wrong, and when they do it is often tragic. I was an intern and was lucky to only be cut and burned (badly) in my first summer. Luckily nobody died at my job but I did see some go home permanently.

I feel for this girl's family.

Exactly, what on earth was a summer temp worker handling that kind of weight with a remote control. Holmen Paper shame on you! And now they want to resume to production routines to divert the mind???? Is that another way of saying, 'we do not want to have any financial loss'?

My heart cries for the family of the girl.

Please for God sake Holmen paper have some value for human life . I believe accidents can happen anytime but once should be human enough to pay condolence and take responsibility for your ignorance.....
