18 guilty in Södertälje 'gang-war' case

The 31-year-old leader of the Nätverket ('The network') gang was on Wednesday convicted along with 17 other men in connection with a slew of offences committed in a gang-war in Södertälje south of Stockholm.

The man was sentenced to life after being found guilty of murder, incitement to murder, kidnapping, aggravated extortion, attempted aggravated extortion, weapons offences, unlawful restraint and aggravated robbery.

Some 20 men were charged in the case and 16 were on Wednesday given prison sentences, while two were sentenced to youth detention and two were acquitted.

The case has engaged the services of four prosecutors and covered investigations into three murders and a slew of serious criminal offences linked to gang crime.

The 31-year-old was convicted of having instigated the murder of the leader of the rival X-team criminal gang in December of 2009 at the gambling club Oasen in Södertälje.

The slaying was the catalyst for a several years of bloody conflict between the gangs which police inspector Thomas Nordström characterized as a battle for control of the drugs trade in the area.

In the spring of 2010, a car was fired upon in Södertälje, and the 31-year-old is believed to have been the target.

According to police, the Nätverket gang took exacted revenge by having young Assyriska FF footballer Eddie Moussa and his brother gunned down by assailants wielding automatic weapons at the Oasen club later that year.

The 26-year-old Moussa was a promising young footballer with Assyriska FF, a Södertälje-based club which played one season in Sweden's Allsvenskan top-flight after winning promotion in 2004.

Why is there no mention of the duration of the sentences? Or was there only a conviction without punishment?

I'd love to hear the absurdly short term these people will get to spend in a tax-payer funded resort (Swedish jails are nothing a prison should be). After all we want to encourage others to join gangs, trade drugs, carry illegal firearms and shoot people. Right Sweden?

if your country joins a coalition that obliterates entire nations destroying all infrastructure and wiping out entire generations then be prepared for millions maybe billions of refugees that you created. With the added bonus of those you didn't murder being very angry with a long memory.

problem is easily solved. stop invading sovereign nations.

america has officially backed the syrian "rebels" ( which is a defacto war against russia ) applied sanctions to China and is threatening Iran whilst still fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan. This is just the start. You think you have trouble in your own backyard - you haven't seen anything yet.

How marvelous the thing with being a multicultural country is, doesn't everyone agree!? Oh how joyful it is when everyone just loves everyone! Asylum seekers loves Swedes whom they are showing utter respect and gratitude for the chance of getting rid of their war-torn existence. And Swedes loves them in return just as much! Why every Swede invites at least one family of Asylum seekers into their homes, gets to know them, hugs and shows their love. Pink elephants are dancing in the streets, light blue rabbits jumping here and there, even the sun is formed in the shape of a pink heart high up in the sky!

How is it that a party like Sverigedemokraterna can exist at all?? :O
