Swede held in Panama for money-laundering

A Swedish man has been arrested in Panama together with a Dutchman on suspicion of laundering some $100 million as part of an international crime syndicate.

The two men were charged with "offences against the economic order of Panama" in late April, according to a report in the interest.co.nz. news website.

They are reported to be connected to a slew of offshore New Zealand finance companies, as well as a banking operation which is based in New Zealand but run from the central American tax haven Panama.

One of the Swedish man's stable of registered companies offers credit union type entities in Sweden, according to the website.

The man is reported to have moved from Stockholm to Panama in 2006 or 2007.

His network of companies are registered with the New Zealand Companies Office financial services providers (FSP) registry and his main company Zealand Financial remains in operation.

Several websites tied to the Swede are also reported to remain in service and some of his companies are apparently continuing to solicit customers.

The pair were arrested following an investigation launched in 2011, instigated after a tip off from the British Embassy's First Secretary in Panama.

The Swede was initially released on a $250,000 bail but this grant was since been overturned following an appeal by the prosecutor against organized crime.

Sorry princeT, the likes of this piece of news provides no ammunition for the onslaughts of the far right, Neo-Nazis and Breivik's lot. They will just have to wait till they get any whiff of immigrant-perpetrated crimes. sigh!

It`s sad that one is labeled far right, Neo-Nazis or a Breivik wannabe becuase one wants an open and truthfull discussion about crime.

Well, if this lowlife scum criminal is a swede he is a swede. If he is guilty i hope they throw away the key.

What i constantly object against is the insincerity of the media. EITHER they should never write out ethnicity. OR they should always write it. Just lately it was almost surreal when thy labelled that swede setting fire to his sambo "a man" while they labelled that ethiopian knifing his wife "a swedish man". Stay off it. Or go all the way. As it is it only exposes the medias racist agenda. Its a disgrace.

Since thelocal wrote "swedish man" in this article im tempted at looking sideways at ethiopians that moved to Panama. But who can tell?

My guess is that the media pretends that they mean swedish citizen when they write "swedish man". But firstly, this is inane, citizenship is a piece of paper and it does not change your culture, your circle of contacts, the way you view the world or how you are viewed by the world (yes, feelings of kinship does matter, just ask any mother). Secondly, the media does not even stick to that narritive either. Either way, the media is hard at work making fools of themselves and alianating more or less everyone in this sad corner of the world.

@jostein. This is a swedish swede man. I actually know his name. It is also a shame that dis case is a terrorism case and swedish press refuses to publish it. Sthey have been arrested since April. @jostein. Your paranoa dat a swede does not or cannot commit a crime is astounding. Even if u visit our jails, the population of immigrants are small. Jostein Stop encoraging brecik and mång. I hope säpo is reading.
