Two shot in third night of Eskilstuna violence

Published: 2 Aug 12 14:55 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/42386/20120802/

Two men were shot in Eskilstuna near Stockholm on Wednesday night in what police believe to have been the latest exchanges in three days of gang-related violence.

According to the police, the men were shot in the legs and were conscious when they were taken to hospital in an ambulance shortly after midnight.

The shootings are the third gun-related incident to occur in the town on consecutive evenings and police believe that the shootings are part of a drug-related dispute.

"We have had them under observation for a long time, generally they are engaged in drugs offences, blackmail and other forms of violent crime," said Fredrik Wallén at Sörmlands police.

Late Monday two men were injured in a shooting outside of a school.

While the men were able to drive themselves to the local Mälaren Hospital, one remains in hospital being treated for gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

The other, 28-year-old, man was shot in the leg and he is reported to have been targeted in a further shooting the following day. He is reported to be previously known to police.

All of the shootings have been classified by police as attempted murder.

Some 20 people are believed to be involved in the criminal network and around half of them directly involved in the shootings.

None of the injured parties have been forthcoming in police interviews and police are hopeful that more witnesses will come forward.

How is Sweden one of the most democratic countries in the world beats me... Freedom of expression is severely stepped over here. Who gives a damn about men having paternal leave or not, when you don't have freedom of expression. A student failed his year because he said that being gay is "not normal". That was his opinion of it. And he was failed for that. How is that freedom of expression? That, and the newspapers. The newspapers in Sweden are being controlled and censored by the government, such as you never see descriptions of the perpetrators. We want to know WHO did it. Not just that it happend.

Great, it happened. But WHO? How is this free press if the inherent "Who? What? How? When? Why?" is censored by the government into "What?".

Are they from Somalia? Are they European? How do they look? Are they black? What's the problem of calling a person black, if he's black? I don't see how is that racist. They call as "white" and that's not racist. Calling a black person black is like calling a chinese... a chinese. If he's black, state it. If he's an arab, state it. We want to know thir race, nationallity, political views, religion, and what they eat for breakfast.

Perhaps its time to lock them up? Novel idea I know.

jan.petras, had the Swedish media tended to your wish we may well have had a few more Mangs and Brieviks. The fact that a significant number of crimes here are perpetrated by 'immigrants' - note how a very diverse people are bagged in one group - does not justify negatively profiling 'immigrants' on an individual basis. But mind you, the tact has proven counter productive since almost all crimes are attributed to immigrants by default. You proved this well in your statement: "Are they from Somalia? Are they European? How do they look? Are they black? .... If he's an arab, state it."

20:02 August 2, 2012 by jan.petras
JohnGrey so instead of tackling the problem, we hide it and "hope for the best" ? The fact that there's no Breiviks in Sweden doesn't mean there are no problems with criminality and unemployment amongst refugees and asylum seekers. There is a problem, and it needs to be solved. Malmo has "no-go" zones where even the ambulance doesn't dare to step into without police escort, and some zones where even the police refuse to go into. The same has started to happen in Stockholm. How is that better as opposed to making the problem known and also letting the public known that it's being worked upon, and reporting the stories that show advances in the problem and good things about immigrants also.

All I'm saying is: freedom of the press. Present it as it is. "Prevention of a Breivik" is not an excuse to censor the press. That is not, under any circumstance, democratic.

I know you think it's not that much, but it is. A free press is the watchdog of democracy. When the press is not allowed to freely report everything, and is state-funded, like in Sweden, then we have a real problem.

No matter how long I live in Sweden I'll never get used to the media never telling us the names of criminals! In my hometown paper in the USA *all* crimes, even non-violent ones such as shop lifting, have the criminals name, and usually photo, printed on a daily basis.

Is the media in Sweden too afraid that we'll learn that most crimes here are committed by refugees from a certain part of the world?
20:40 August 2, 2012 by prince T
@ spuds u are so wrong. Immigrants commit crimes but MOST CRIMES are not committed by immigrants. @ jostein will soon show u statistics. I found out 2 days ago that MOST mishandla or killing of women are not committed by immigrants tooo.

I call shenanigans.
22:12 August 2, 2012 by Spuds MacKenzie
@Prince T - If that is true the why is the media so reluctant to list criminals names here (unless they are an "ethnic Swede").

I've learned that when a name isn't mentioned then that means they are not of a Swedish background.

I just wrote an opinion on why Sweden is not a democracy - no ranting/railing or rude words - and the moderator rejected it.

They don't want to hear the truth
23:37 August 2, 2012 by MitchXXX
I think the majority of Swedish voters voted for this system since 1960's.So why is everyone complaining?
00:04 August 3, 2012 by JohnnyEnglish
The government has nothing to do with it. If a news paper wants to publish names or ethnicity they can do so but they often choose not to do it because of voluntary "press ethics rules".
06:33 August 3, 2012 by prince T
@Spud M. I will give example of the arrest in Panama. The man was arrested in april and the case was classified as terrorism. For some funny reasons the swedish press kept quiet on the case until now. My point is based on recent discovries. TL IS selective on what they publish. Especially wen it involves immigrants on TL. Wen names are not mentioned, clues are left behind. There 10s of murder cases in the other papers everyday in sweden. TL only publish immigrant related cases.

@spud. 151 women were reported mudered by partners last year. Most of them aare not immigrants but we read of only immigrant related cases on TL. aftonbladet is my source if u want to check

"Can someone please tell me what Islam has contributed to society?"

Well the pope summed it up a few years ago when he quoted a Byzantine emperor who basically said, violence, destruction and death.

It is wonderful when these multiculturalist say you must except and embrace the islamic culture that is slowly taking over your country or you are a FAR right neo-nazi, racist (even though islam is NOT a race). YET when have any of these leftist, multiculturalist, anti- racist ever gone to say Pakistan, or Egypt, or Saudi Arabia and tried to force their multiculturalism on these countries? Why don't they go to Saudi Arabia, I hear there are wonderful beaches there and have their women swim in bikinis, have the men sit around in a restaurant and eat pork sausages and drink beer and expect the Saudis to do the same. If they don't - riot, burn cars and call the Saudis racist. I'll tell you why, multiculturalism is a ONE WAY STREET, always over there to over here, BUT never, ever over here to over there. The multiculturalist are not stupid, they do not want to be executed.
08:15 August 3, 2012 by prince T
I am strongly emphasis that i do not hold brief for islam because i am a christian. I am also against most of the things the religion stands for. However not all immigrants are muslims and not all pple from middle east are muslims.

We should attack islamic fundamentalism; not pple or generalise every bad thing as belonging to a particular group. When we have some of them in our own swedish culture. No comment from me on this matter again.
10:14 August 3, 2012 by Elias06
@Spuds MacKenzie When it comes to shootings in sweden it is generally mafias from eastern europe (Albania, serbia---) and they are not refugees and they are not arabs as i see that you are importing your primitive american anti islam racism...to sweden-

these mafias involve pure swedish guys also just like them ethnikly good. the refugees that you are targetting from that part of the world just want to eat and sleep in sweden, they often taking advantage of the system socially its true but they are not the one making mafias and shooting people, i hope you are not putting all the shootings in your f...ck..ing country on their account also---- excuse for the bad english

Organised crime only follows the patterns being evolved in our world & society, apart from robbery extortion, blackmail & fraud..gangs usually make money by selling drugs, so if we didn`t buy them in the first place, alcohol & ciggies are relatively expensive here in Sweden & a natural source of income for criminals as smuggled goods...but who makes them so expensive...our government. Org. crime only fills in a gap in the free market which our betters forbid or control. If ciggies & booze were cheaper.a..k.a. more like EU prices then there would be no need to smuggle them. Hard core porn was always a source for UK criminals but that has gone now thanks to internet. Auto theft is lower now as cars are generally more difficult to steal, used cars are in excess globally so criminals will turn to other means, its only human nature.
17:00 August 3, 2012 by Spuds MacKenzie
@Elias 06 - when did I ever mention the words "arab" or "islam" in my posts?

That's right: never!
00:50 August 4, 2012 by Akash_dwivedi
@ernest Olson

Well, Islam gave us the crowd (population), to start with, then hatred crimes, suicide bombings, Veils, Polygamy, 9/11, 7/7 and the list goes on. There is so much they have done for the society that there are not enough words to describe it.

You know how children tend to ask where is god, has anyone seen him, well now you tell them such stories you can tell them how Satan looks like.

Islam is a curse, people who realize fear the society and never stand against it and those who pretend to be secular will realize it sooner or later.

Many countries are suffering in the hands of Islam, Sweden has started to see what it is like. Your (lame) politicians need to do something about it before Sweden turns into France or England. God bless you.

"I've learned that when a name isn't mentioned then that means they are not of a Swedish background."

I think you're absolutely right about that and I have also mentioned something about it here at TL.

"However not all immigrants are muslims and not all pple from middle east are muslims."

No, not all of them. I once knew some wonderful people from Iran. They weren't muslims but followers of the religion Bahá'í. Otherwise I wouldn't have made friends with them because Islam is not compatible with my believes. As of me I'd much rather start worshiping Oden before Muhammad!
