Swedish teen arrested for Thailand murder

A Swedish teenager has been arrested by Thai police on suspicion of stabbing an 18 year-old man to death in a Thai hotel room, and is now facing murder charges for the grisly triangle drama, reported local newspapers.

The murder occurred on Friday, reported the Aftonbladet newspaper, citing a local newspaper in tourist resort Pattaya, south of Bangkok.

According to English language newspaper Pattaya Daily News, the Swedish boy was in the country visiting his girlfriend in the city Amphur Muang in eastern Thailand.

The girlfriend, in turn, had made contact with the other 18 year-old, a local student, through Facebook, and brought him to the Swede’s hotel for the two to meet.

Once at the hotel, however, the student rushed in to the Swede’s room, and left the girl locked outside. Sounds of fighting were heard through the locked door, and some minutes later the student opened the door covered in blood, and left.

Police found him lying dead outside the hotel.

Thai authorities have informed Sweden’s Foreign Ministry (Utrikesdepartementet, UD) of the arrest, and the ministry’s press manager Anders Jörle told news agency TT that the arrested Swede is not yet 18 years old, and therefore still a minor.

“We’ve been informed that he’s been arrested for this investigation, and we know what it’s about. There isn’t much more to say about it,” Jörle said.

According to Pattaya Daily News, local police found the Swedish boy sitting with his girlfriend in his hotel room. He has confessed to dealing the deadly stabs, but claims they were in self-defense.

His room showed clear signs of a fight, and there were several pools of blood on the floor. Police also found a roughly fifteen centimetre long knife.

The Swede reportedly met his 18 year-old girlfriend in Sweden where she lives with her Thai mother. She had been spending some time in her former home town Amphur Muang, and the Swedish boy checked in to hotel Jantra in Amphur Muang four days ago.

@Playmobil- No, it has nothing to do with how the person looks. It's more about the culture that he grew up in and the way that culture solves its problems 99% of the time (violence).

So, it was Morrocco who won the Eurovision song contest, not Sweden. Can someone please define Swedishness for me? If someone was born in Sweden, grew up in Sweden and holds Swedish citizenship is he still not eligible to be Swedish?

As for the likes of Rod Munch, you can go and munch on your rod you xenophobic racist prat!
23:21 August 5, 2012 by djmarko
well seems what Rod is trying to imply is if you commit a crime and you have ethnic background then you certainly cant be swedish, hmm Eurovision winner?? what nationality will Rod call her??? pathetic bunch of losers in here!!

Would be great if people throwing names publicly so easily, would consider giving their own name or their sources instead of staying so cowardly anonymous.. so pathetic

Comment: @ Rod Munch What an ignorant fool had you made of yourself with that statement, Swedish passport is Swedish citizen, dregardless of birth origin, Most of ''Swedish citizens'' have background from other european countries, The only ''natural'' Swedes are the Laplanders, and the ''regular Swedes being trying to eliminate them.. shame shame shame
10:15 August 6, 2012 by KFF
Re: robban70226

The sami aren't any more of a native people than the germanic people and the swedes never tried to eliminate them. We are talking about people that arrived 8000-10000 years ago. The germanic tribes from the south and the sami from Finland/Russia. Pretty much everything, especially the coasts, except the inland in Lappland has been dominated by germanic peoples and finns.

The whole argument that the sami is the native people and the germanics are invaders was created in the twentieth century to copy/paste native americans and the developments of USA on Sweden. It's just a narrative used for political ends and has nothing to do with any real history. The reason why it has become popular is coupled to the needs of the swedish establishment to weaken the claims of the native swedes that Sweden somehow is coupled to them. The government want to have an official history based on an idea that everyone is an immigrant to create arguments about the immigration we have today. They also want to shame the swedes to feel bad about ourself by projecting racism in all our dealings with other peoples and that we somehow stole the scandinavian land mass from another people. It's lies but lies that are needed for ideological reasons and therefore projected by the establishment.

When it comes to the article then the proper characterisation is swedish citizen. A swede has a dual meaning and means both the ethnic group and swedish citizen.

It isn't that hard really. Everyone in the world can become a swedish citizen but to become a member of the ethnic group requires some kind of connections by blood and preferably history. This is exactly how all other ethnic groups in the world also functions. The reason they call everyone swedes is mostly political to murky the waters.

What RodMunch is saying is that Ethnic Swedes and Swedish citizens are 2 different things. Look at this statement with no preconceived notions. People from different countries have different moral values and codes, no matter what their passport says on it. I think that is the point many are trying to make in this forum. In France, people drink on lunch breaks in company canteens, in Sweden it is not acceptable. In Afghanistan women are stoned to death for adultery, in the UK it is not a crime. We can go on all day making comparisons. This is why people react differently in life in situations. A boy brought up in an oppressive country with a government that uses violence on its people will of course react more violently in a situation, regardless of the nationality of the passport he holds.. This is the world, get used to it. If this was not the case, Rosengård would be a nice place to live.
11:33 August 6, 2012 by KFF
Re: bourgeoisieboheme

That is my point also. Although i'm pretty confident that the swedish citizen of iranian descent was brought up in Sweden. The vast majority of Iranians in Sweden arrived during the eighties up to the nineties and in this case it's someone with dual Iranian and swedish citizenship.

It's a tragic murder case and has nothing to do with either swedish or iranian culture.
11:52 August 6, 2012 by Byggare Bob
Swedish is not an ethnic group it is a nationality.

A Swedish national was arrested in Thailand on suspicion of murder.
16:39 August 6, 2012 by Kahmoudi
I'd like to know which ethnic group would sit /stand there and allow an attacker to stab them to death? The fact is the dead guy rushed into a hotel room of a stranger he was to meet for the first time and locked the door. ???? Anyone else think he might have had nefarious ideas? WHOSE KNIFE WAS IT? From what I'm reading it seems like the girlfriend's jealous male friend tried to kill the SWEDISH CITIZEN and he defended himself just like any sane, rational person would have, no matter where they come from.

"So, it was Morrocco who won the Eurovision song contest, not Sweden."

You are confusing states with nations. The swedish nation state has been abolished, on the ground by 35 years of immigration, officially through the huge change to the swedish constitution 2010. So, sweden today is an administative area, not a nation. Nobody cares anymore what citizenship someone has when they win this, that or the other. Cept for the media but they are truly bonkers.

"Can someone please define Swedishness for me? If someone was born in Sweden, grew up in Sweden and holds Swedish citizenship is he still not eligible to be Swedish?"

Correct. If you live here for 3 generations. And dont mix blood with us swedes. You are a colonist, not a swede.
04:53 August 7, 2012 by piu-sweden
alot of people from various Africa and the muslim world are mixing with the ethnic swedes for the purpose of upgrading their racial hierarchy and to assure the transformation of lightness.
