REFLECTIONS OF A TWITTER VIRGIN…. »
"I confess to having been reluctant to embrace Twitter. But I confess myself a bit of a convert. The great TV critic Clive James once said about “Dallas”, “I came to mock but I stayed to pray”. I wouldn’t go that far, but I have found my first two weeks on Twitter (@hmapauljohnston) both fun and informative. It’s been..." READ »

It is just possible that the crimes you list as being 'unsolved' were more dependent on public co-operation than the solving of this crime has been.
In any event, I llok forward to your energised input as a good citizen in helping to solve crimes in your area. You clearly seem to know how it's done.
#3 - As a good citizen I go by my business without committing crimes. However, it should be obvious that not wasting police resources on such matter would be one step into solving or preventing additional crimes. I'm fine with animal abuse being a crime, I just don't like to actually see police resources being spend on them when more pressing matters are unattended.
Perhaps if these officers where working on real cases any of the numerous news reports on here recently of robberies with automatic weapons and organized teams could have been solved and a barrier for those wanting to do the same be thrown up. Now we might have prevented another puppy from being tortured but might see another bank getting robbed and some criminals opening fire in public again. I take it your priorities are with the puppies.
Apparently you are not bothered by gratuitous cruelty. At last report, serial killers, among others, begin their careers torturing defenseless animals. Apparently, you also condone getting a little extra drug money by torturing defenseless animals to death. Or is it a religious thing? The police are enforcing the law. Give them a break when they finally get something right. Your priorities may lie with torturing animals but many of the rest of us are quite happy to see this pair nabbed.
Bravo to the police for including this investigation as they multi-task..
