Netflix set to launch in Sweden this year

Netflix, the US company which offers online film streaming and DVD delivery by mail, will launch its services in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden by the end of the year, it said on Wednesday.

Netflix "will offer streaming of TV shows and movies for one low monthly price in Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland before the end of 2012," it said in a statement.

Subscribers will be able to watch "a wide array of Hollywood, local and global TV shows and movies," it added, however the company provided no details about subscription rates as yet.

In the US and Canada, over 23 million people are members of the company, paying $7.99 each month for the service.

When Netflix published its quarterly earnings in July, the California-based group said its fourth-quarter launch on its "next international market" would "drive us temporarily back into the red."

Netflix was launched in the United States in 1999 and has expanded to Britain, Canada and Latin America over the past two years.

Movies, flat rate - This is what I thought Voddler would have done, while they try to figure it out, welcome Netflix

would love to try it out, but ive heard from us friends it doesnt have much movies, and the quality might vary, anyone who knows ?

Voddler was a good idea which got lost by an incompetent CEO and inept investors. I have been using Netflix since 2003 and they are so spot on.

@Cephalectomy Netflix has absolutely loads of movies, but they don't have the big name very recent releases. You can see what's available on US Netflix @ http://instantwatcher.com/

Depending on what deals Netflix does with the studios and TV programme makers the selection here will differ from what's available in the US which differs from what's available from Netflix UK. However once you have a Netflix subscription in one region you can access the content in other regions by using a smart dns service such as unblockus.

Netflix is a great service for $8. Between Netflix and Amazon instant video (online video rentals), we haven't turned on our cable box in months.

Bandwidth through our US VPN is usually between 1.5 to 3 Mbps but even HD almost always comes through pretty well. There are no ads. In the last few weeks, Netflix also added a kids-only page so I don't have to be so concerned about them watching things they shouldn't.

Movie selection isn't that great, though they do have some recent movies like the last Transformers movie from 2011. Watching educational shows from History channel, Discovery channel, etc. is far better that watching same channels on Swedish cable. Selection of children's shows is also far better.

My only concern would be that the price for the service in Sweden would overpriced, like so many other things.

I used to be a member of netflix, most of their online movies are old. But if you want to get a newer movie(if its available), it takes a few days to deliver. I just used the Redbox and Hulu now.

Instead of Unblock US you should use a VPN instead http://vpnfreedom.com/netflix/unblock-us-review/
