Dane sought after Swede's bulls hit

A Dane who thought he had felled two massive wild boars on a recent hunting trip in southern Sweden is facing criminal suspicions after it turned out the animals were actually Highland bulls.

The incident took place around midnight last Friday during a hunting expedition in a wooded area in Mörlunda near Hultsfred.

According to police, the Danish hunter thought he saw some wild boar stride within range and fired off three shots.

But the hunter's joy quickly turned to anguish when approached his kill and realized that, rather than boar, he had shot and killed a pair of 800 kilogramme Highland breed bulls which belonged to the landowner that organized the hunt.

The hunter quickly alerted the landowner and informed him of the mix up, prompting the landowner to in turn notify police.

"A Danish citizen has shot two bulls he thought were wild boars," Kalmar County police spokesperson Christer Karlsson told the Expressen newspaper.

"You'd think you'd be able to see the difference."

Karlsson added that wild boar rarely weigh more than 200 kilogrammes, "so the bulls were quite a bit larger".

"It may have been dark out, and all, but he didn't do such a great job," he told Expressen.

The Danish hunter, who was determined to be sober at the time of the incident, is now suspected of having violated Swedish hunting laws.

Highland cattle are very common in Scotland, despite their somewhat fearsome looks with the big horns and long hair, they are also one of the more gentle species of cattle after the Jersey Cattle.

They are also big - very big - in fact of a comparative size to the French Charolais breed of cattle, some often seen between Savsjo and Bodafors.

But to compare them in size with a Wild Boar?................

I would respectfully suggest that this particular Danish Hunter visits Spec-savers - and pretty quick too!

According to the Expressen web site these coo beasties weren't Highland cattle, but Angus.

Always opposite worlds in Sweden.

This sounds like a honest mistake, he notified all the relevant parties and he could simply provide the owner with a small compensation to make it all go away. But instead we're pursuing possible criminal charges and prosecution.

Then there are tons and tons of news postings in the media with real crimes which require real prosecution which are then not chased down and the criminals are often just let go.

Nothing in this country makes sense to me.

"informed him of the mix up"

Mix up? Mate immigate to the USA, you will certainly fit in with their ingrained gun culture. You can't distinguish between a boar and a huge beast?

Yes I can't distinguish between a Manly Ferry and the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Opera House?

Mate you most definitely are a forthcoming cadidate for the Darwin awards

Dumb and dumber, go to America where you will be more comfortable..

Of all the things that do not mix well with firearms (alcohol, drugs, anger, etc.) stupidity is often the most dangerous.

Sounds even worse then. Isn't the average size of an Angus even bigger than the Highland? At least they look a lot bigger.

Either way, I suspect alcohol was involved if the fellow was shooting cows and thinking he was shooting pigs (or myopia that should have his license pulled).

Since he self-reported, give him a fine equal to the value of the animals to be paid to the farmer and send him home.........

He "...was determined to be sober at the time of the incident."!!!

I don't think this is what you mean. I'm sure you don't mean he was making every effort (intending) to be sober.

I'm sure you mean he was "...tested and found to be sober...".

More poor English.

"...is facing criminal suspicions"?

Where do you find these weird expressions?

You mean he is facing possible legal action. (Criminal charges)

Since when have wild boar sported big horns?

One wonders whether the Danes should wear specs or go to a wild life lecture and learn the difference.
