Suspect admits to 'ruthless' subway robbery

Published: 17 Sep 12 07:24 CET | Print version
Online: http://www.thelocal.se/43264/20120917/

A 28-year-old man under arrest for robbing an unconscious man and leaving him on the tracks of a subway station near Stockholm where the victim was later hit by a train confessed on Sunday to the crime as well as other thefts.

"He is very regretful," police investigator Dan Östman told the TT news agency.

Under interrogation by police on Sunday, the 28-year-old man tried to explain why he didn't help his victim, who had fallen onto the tracks and was lying unconscious.

According to the police, the mean feared that he would be suspected of having pushed the victim, a 38-year-old father, onto the tracks.

"That's the reason he gave; that he was scared of being accused of having caused all of this," said Östman.

The highly-publicized case, broadcast last week on TV3's "Efterlyst" ('Wanted') television programme, took place early Sunday morning a week ago at the Sandsborg metro station, south of Stockholm.

After being robbed, the victim was run over by a train and seriously injured, but survived.

According to Östman, the suspect had considered turning himself in, but police managed to catch him before he had the chance.

The 28-year-old suspect, referred to last week by police as "Sweden's most wanted man", was arrested in the north Stockholm suburb of Akalla on Friday night.

Two other men were apprehended in conjunction with the arrest on suspicions of trading stolen goods.

However, both were released on Saturday and are no longer suspected of any crimes, said Östman.

The suspected subway robber remains under arrest and prosecutors have until Tuesday to file a motion to have him held on remand.

Ok, now we know that he's not a follower of the religion that everyone suspects as they never admit admit guilt no matter what. I am guessing gypsy background here.

@Richard:

I guess you feel bless by the gods or kind of superior because you got lucky to be born in Sweden..

Just like a rich kid who behave as an ashole as he feels superior..

Just some luck at very beginning.

To this F#cker who let this guy on the tracks, i really regret there is no such law like there is everywhere else in Europe to charge you for not assisting someone in obvious danger..

agreed the guy did an awful thing and he should be punished accordingly. My question is, the guys watching the tracks with the security cam must have seen a guy lying on the tracks, why did they not alarm the security, before the robbery and before the train ran over the poor chap? I know in the UK these cams are watched all the time, at tube stations and railway stations. Im not blaming the security guys but all this could have been prevented. Just Saying.

I know this guy is a complete scum for what he did but what about the so called victim, i still can't understand how some people can get drunk as if its the end of the world...The drunk man is equally stupid and he only has himself to blame, I hope this is a good lesson in sobriety.

The only thing he is truly regretful about is that all of his actions were caught on security camera, which led to his arrest. This sack of vomit with a soul filled to the brim with diarhea could not have cared less if the train decaptitated the victim or not. If he took the time to rob him, then during the adittional 8 minutes before the train arrived he could have moved him to safety, or alerted the station agent to stop the oncoming train, and he did neither of those things.

dizzy09 this guy had been out with friends after a golf tournament on his last weekend before returning from paternity leave to go back to work on the following Monday. As another poster noted, some thieves place drugs in the drinks of others that will eventually incapacitate them, so that they can follow them home and eventually rob them. Even if this was not the case, the victim was responsibly taking public transportation andwas not driving a car, and he was not harassing others as some drunks do.

You are cruel and your view of reality is heavily distorted if you can write that the victim and the thief are 'equally stupid'. One suffered an accident by falling onto the tracks, the other is guilty of not only theft but of negligence and willful neglect causing severe bodily harm and that could easily have led to the death of the victim.

From what I am reading the guy is from Tunisia and his name is Nadar Khiari.

Funny how TL is censoring facts - pure data - however not harassment of other people's person.

I merely wrote the name the PERPETRATOR claimed is his and also the country HE claimed he's from. All according to the link to the news article I gave. And as a comment to Richard's speculation about religion I looked at Wikipedia and saw the perpetrator's COUNTRY of origin contains of 99.5% Muslims.

I wrote nothing more, nothing less. I have not asked the perpetrator if he happen to be a Muslim too. For all I care he can worship Satan, and probably does. But let's just say he's a Muslim - so what - even a Muslim man can be insane in the head, can he not?

@rise

Well I doubt if anyone question Christianity given the fact that according to wikipedia 84% of Norwegians are Christians and one of them has terrorized more than 70 teens. The fact is that there is no where in Bible or Quran which states robbery is allowed! Grow up! These misbehavior come from the mixture of poor social and economical standards in a society and lack of personal intelligence combined. You can equally find similar crime rate (if not more) in the US.

wherever that guy is from, whatever he believes in, I want him as far away as possible from me...

unfortunately he will soon be out and will most likely be given benefits, from our tax money and Johnny's tax money...

disgusting...

@ Rise- Yeah, I was wrong. I thought he was not a Muslim due to their well-known lack of accountability, self-criticism and inability to admit when they are wrong in light of the information that this criminal had confessed. My mistake.

@ Iraniboy Again I think this is culture. First of all I would say that most people in Scandinavia are not really dedicated Christians.. Those 84% I would say mostly are born in to it and never cared to sign themselves out of church to look for another religion. Breivik was one of them.. Even if he was people are quick to single that one guy out to let him and the sourunding know that this type of behaviour is not OK. I believe that is what is lacking in your culture a bit (correct me if I am wrong) First of all your religion is so strong and my Muslim friends are explaining that it is not a faith, it is who they are.Makes it a bit more sensitive. If someone is pointing at a Muslim man the rest take it personally and start defending making excuses for him collectively. Then get into defence mood and feel people are judging you for to your believes. You never get a clear sign from Muslims in that way that THIS GUY IS SCUM we want nothing to do with it. Well after the attempted suicide bombing in Stockholm Muslims in Sweden did openly reject the guy and I believe that is what made people relax and not really speak of it more. He became One crazy dude,,like Breivik fighting an imaginary war in his head!

@ Iraniboy

My respond is that I'd rather not discuss things with you. Why? Because you are a twister of words.

For being an Iranian - if that's really what you are - you make me rather disappointed because I have a strong personal relationship towards Iranians: I owe an Iranian my life! But that's all anybody need to know because like I said it's personal.
