Reinfeldt ignored foreign policy, climate: expert

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt’s government declaration on Tuesday focused on investment and unity, but barely touched on foreign policy and climate, argued political scientist Malena Rosén Sundström.

The focus in the Prime Minister's government declaration was clearly "investment," according to Sundström, a lecturer in political science at Lund University.

“He talked both about specific investments in research and housing, but also about investment in unity and optimism,” she told the TT news agency.

Unity and cohesion were topics Reinfeldt returned to several times in his speech, an idea Sundström interprets as the Moderates' version of solidarity.

“By talking about cohesion, the image of the Moderates as the new party of labour was solidified.”

The fact that the Prime Minister spoke about the economic crisis in the EU and Sweden's relatively strong economy was not surprising for Sundström.

“I had expected that he would continue to touch on the government policies responsible for protecting public finances.”

But she thinks the Prime Minister said less than expected on the state of the world outside of the EU.

“Considering he was talking about a changing world, there wasn’t much talk of foreign policy,” she said, adding that climate change issues received even less attention.

“The Centre Party, which after all is the green voice in the Alliance, cannot feel particularly pleased with its low-profile role.”

Sweden ignoring what is going on right now. The more people are kept quiet the more western values of freedom of speech dies.

According to Salman Rushdie it is harder now to criticize islam than it was 20 years ago, and this is from a guy that has been running from a fatwa on his head for a decade.

When will Sweden man up and stand by "i might not agree with what you say but ill defend to the death your right to say it"

Instead we dive into a world where just because a massive group is pissed at something then everyone else is oppressed into silence.

This is the western world i can say christianity sucks as much as i can say islam sucks. And the government should protect my right to say it without fearing persecution and death

@grokh. U can do a paid advert to insult mohammed. Säpo will protect u, that i am sure of. U can insult Jesus, christian will not attack u. I dare u lead by example by stop hiding TL. Come out of your closet and man up on your view on islam. I dont understand why we cannot let sleeping dog lie. Though muslims cannot tell me how to live my lifein Sweden. If i ever come to egpt , afghan or iran pls hang me.. That is a view i passionately defend.

@prince T

how can anyone dare say something against islam even in sweden when the outcome is having to live like Lars vilks ?

And im not even talking about calling mohamed pedophile, i try having conversation with islamic people about religion and i find myself being very diplomatic, and even then i have to find those who have a more open view than most. I fear for the day i say religion is stupid and someguy runs up to me and stabs me.

with that being said there are islamic people that you can talk more openly , but its all the tiptoeing that is scary, and how the western media doesnt dare criticizing it because of fear of retribution and that to me is oppressive.

i see your point @grokh. it is scary to engage muslims in arguement over their religion. you could be risking death by challenging any islamic view.

they claim it is the fastest growing religion in the world but if you stop to talk to some people that call themselves muslims, they do not understand anything about the religion. most people are muslim by birth, they have no say over it and cannot convert to another relgion withoout attracting death. most people understand the violence or be sympathetic to it. the is one the main reason for terrorism. I can never understand how a holy and godly person spend the whole of his time thinkking of how to kill another person. that is beyond my imagination.

if you say christiniaty is bad, I will say that is your opinion and it does not affect anything. Or I will say God bless you.
