Hacktivists threaten 'biggest attack' on Friday

After incapacitating the Swedish Riksbank website in a DDOS attack late on Wednesday night, a spokesperson claiming ties to hacktivist network Anonymous promised the “biggest” attack so far to take place on Friday.

“This Friday we will do the biggest thing we have ever done. We will not say what we will do yet,” an artificial sounding voice proclaimed in the clip, which claims ties to Anonymous and was broadcast on YouTube.

The latest threat comes after a slew of DDOS attacks carried out on Swedish agencies.

The National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) website was down on Tuesday evening, and after a threat from hacktivists, claiming to be part of the Anonymous network, the Swedish Riksbank site went down late on Wednesday evening.

Throughout Wednesday, many university sites around the world were also hacked, including Sweden's Uppsala and Lund universities.

The Riksdag website and that of the Swedish government were also rendered inaccessible on Wednesday night.

According to the clips posted on YouTube, the attacks are said to be in retaliation against Monday’s raid by Swedish police on web hosts PRQ, previously hosting both The Pirate Bay and WikiLeaks.

However, according to one expert on IT crime, it is impossible to say whether the last three days’ attacks have actually been carried out by Anonymous, or if the alleged hacktivist network even exists:

“No one in the world knows what Anonymous is,” said Anders Ahlqvist of the National Police Board (Rikspolisstyrelsen) to daily Svenska Dagbladet (SvD).

Is this a news prediction services, "attack on riksbanks late on thursday night" ? or just a lack of proof reading?

Now, imagine if certain groups of government wanted to change laws in Sweden regarding the internet.

But public opinion in the past had caused a concern in regards to the public perception of such.

How does one socially engineer a situation to change the perception of a nation to change a general perception or view ?

Could it be as simple as to use such groups or pockets of resistance and turn it against the people? Through the use of fear and propaganda? Under the umbrella guise of a national threat?

Riksbank last night didn't work when people tried to visit the page, however the name servers that direct a URL to its host did. Which really questions what brought down the page?

Another consideration is what happened if it was actually propaganda and fear mongering through newspapers that actually brought down the site? If a story is fabricated before it happens and that leads to thousands of people to visit a specific site at a certain time and it crashes ..... Is that really the work of a "Hacking group" or the work of another group with an agenda to ensure public perception is changed through a false and deceptive manner?

Had a group really wanted to inflict attention, would it not go after key areas such as stock trading institutions which could inflict monetary harm to a government or nation?

Obviously, as a situation like this can snowball and pick up a few extra nutters along the way .... But many could argue that is in fact, simply entrapment through deceptive means.

Another interesting thing with the story thats covered in this story today, is the URL to a youtube account that issued such threats. The youtube channel that issued a statement had hundreds of videos from the same group. yet this new channel only hosts 1 video? Who is to say this hasn't been fabricated in an attempt to deceive by a group not associated with the group it claims to be from?

The whole thing smells.

And given the chain of events and observation of changes over the past 2 or 3 years it really starts to question if this "perfect storm" of social change has happened with any influence from any specific agenda group.
