Swedish medical uni ranked best in the region

University hospital Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm scored best among Nordic centres of higher learning, in the British Times Higher Education (THE) World University rankings.

- Education agency knocks college rankings (25 Nov 08)
In the overall rankings, KI came in at place 42 but was way ahead of any other nordic universities, with Lund coming in at 82, Uppsala University at 106 and Helsinki University in Finland on place 109.
The best university in the world, according to the THE, was American university California Institute of Technology (Caltech) followed by Stanford in the US and Oxford in the UK on a shared second.
Only 24 countries have centres of higher education among the 200 best universities in the world, with schools in the US and UK highly represented. However, according THE spokespeople, Asian universities are climbing in the rankings.
The THE World University rankings are based on the universities’ core missions; teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The more discipline-specific rankings, more relevant to the Karolinska Institutet as a medical university, will be published at the end of the month.

Oh, wait…best "in its region." I suppose if you narrow the scope down enough, the medical school in Fiji is best in its region.
