Attack on Malmö Jewish centre ruled a hate crime

The explosion outside a Jewish community centre in Malmö last week is now being investigated as a hate crime, a move welcomed by the Swedish Committee Against Anti-Semitism.

“It’s obvious that this is a hate crime. The fact that the crime was aimed at the Jewish community centre shows that people were expressing hostility towards it,” said prosecutor Hans Harding to Swedish newspaper Expo.

“We’re putting enormous resources into trying to solve this. If it were a usual break-in then we wouldn’t have had the county police service taking over the case. This happened because the crime is aimed towards the Jewish community.”

The attack was carried out in the early hours of Friday morning night last week, when an explosion rocked the community centre and someone tried to break through the front door.

No one was injured in the explosion, which was heard up to three blocks away.

The Swedish Committee Against Anti-Semitism (Svenska kommittén mot antisemitism) welcomes the news that the attack is now considered a hate crime.

“It’s really important that the authorities act like this and put in sufficient resources as the number of hate crimes grows. I am happy when the prosecutor says that this will be taken extremely seriously,” spokesman Willy Silberstein told the paper.

“We cannot become immune to this, we must respond when the attacks increase.”

Two 18-year-old men were arrested following the attack, although they both deny the crime.

The attack reignited a long-simmering debate about the safety of Jews in Sweden’s third largest city.

Fred Kahn, head of the Jewish community in Malmö, said the attack reaffirms the view that the Jews in Malmö remain under threat and have suffered as a result.

"We need to heighten our security, but we don't have the money for things like that," he told the TT news agency after the attack.

However, Kahn remained at a loss as to why Jews in Malmö appear to be subject to more threats and violence than Jews elsewhere in the country.

"More attacks are directed at Jews in Malmö. I haven't heard about it happening in other places in Sweden," he told the the local Skånska Dagbladet newspaper.

The Local:

Readers will wonder what maximum sentence a hate crime carries, both for an adult or sub adult perpetrator (as sub-adults, 16 to 21 year olds get a 'get out of jail free' card here in Sweden).

Are the guilty facing 10 years in prison, or will they simply be forcibly enrolled in the 'how to say hi to your neighbours' course?

I'm getting fed up with those Jew-hating Muslims who are so numerous in Malmo, haven't they got anything better to do than forever targeting the small Jewish community of around 700 souls.

If I was attacked by those low-lives I wouldn't give a second thought in setting my two massive Canine body-guards on them, they would make short shrift of them, there would then be three or four less Jew-hating muslims on the loose in Malmo.

Isn't now about high time the scumbag Ilmar Reepalu the so called Mayor of Malmo got his act together and stopped coming to the defence of the 7,000 Muslims, while ignoring the fate of the tiny jewish commun ity of 700 that live in constant fear of fanatical Islamic attacks. These trouble making muslims should be warned by the Swedish government that any Muslim seen attacking, abusing the Jewish community

in any way will be dealt with in the most severest manner.

It could have been a "hate" crime - but hate towards whom?

"We" do not know who " they" are or whether it was a "she" or a "he" that did it or which he she they are, Christian, Atheist , Jew, Sikh or Hindu

It could have been a non-Muslim

who attacked the front door of the Jewish community Centre in Malmö

in the hope of drawing suspicion and animosity to towards God fearing Muslims, Dr. Watson...

so that without any proof and on suspicion only Muslims should be falsely or hypothetically accused of hates crimes and presumed guilty until proved otherwise?

Have a heart!

"We're putting enormous resources into trying to solve this", said prosecutor Hans Harding. If that were true, mass deportations would have begun long time ago.

AND, if it turns out to be the work of moslems, will you move back to what ever middle eastern moslem country you came from and never leave it again?

How many Nobel prizes have been won by Jews? (158) As compared to the Muslims. ( less that 10) How many Muslims in the world compared to the Jews? Over a billion compared to 13 million. I'd say the Jews are over achievers....... When was the last time Jews flew planes into a building?
10:26 October 6, 2012 by motti
The problem is jealousy, philster61. It matters not who did it, or even why. It happened. So let's see who could be responsible, rightwing Nazis, leftwing Communists, Islamic ex cave dwellers, or gormless idiots out for a laugh, infected by the other three.Certainly the first three are renowned for Jew and Israel hatredand because of this, the latter group become infected by the same hate.

The problem will not be solved until Reepalu is sacked from his job, and clearly unfit for the purpose. He has been a force behind the Judeophobic and hating propaganda. As a Swedish rabbi said, "If Reepalu had been mayor during the WWII, Danish Jews escaping from Nazi occupied Denmark would never had been accepted,"

I mentioned earlier that the Jews are compared to the canaries used in the mines, as a social barometer. When there is danger, the canaries sing out and people take note. When the Jews cry out "Gevalt" it is time for society to act. That Jews are being forced to leave Malmoe due to hate, is a sad reflection of local society., and that is why Swedden's good name is being questionned abroad.

@motti

Good point about the barometer. It's a good idea for people with Western values to avoid areas where Jews can't live safely.

"it is good idea for people with western values to avoid areas where Jews can not feel safety...."

tell me please about the values of the Jews in Malmo, out of their religion are they trouble makers of the Swedish sociaty?

Yes so it started with my grandfother and grandmother and my parents who were German citizens for 600 years,at the begining the non Jews were told not to buy in a Jewish shop, afterwards all Jews had to move in a certain neighborhood from where they were separated from the rest of the sociaty ,and at the end they were put on trains in Auschwizim direction-one way ticket.

If you mean to reach that point buy saying what you posted then you are in the right direction, just the question is how many people in Sweden think like you.

Israel.

AHA: Why? Have you nothing more than assertion?
19:23 October 7, 2012 by motti
Kahn is probably very nervous of upsetting the establishment and worried that his comments might inflame Swedish sensibilities. He is caught in the middle and is not suitable for the position he holds. He should be far more outspoken that hitherto.

Of course there was also trouble in Stockholm, too.
19:24 November 6, 2012 by Samir S. Halabi
Malmo Jewish Male citizens who have completed military service should patrol the all Jewish communal buildings in Malmo together with military trained Black Russian Terrier Dogs, that would soon put an end to any mus.lims who think that they can frighten the small Jewish community of Malmo.
