Swedes prefer Reinfeldt over Löfven: poll

The majority of Swedes believe Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, head of the Moderate Party, is better equipped than Social Democrat party head Stefan Löfven to run the country, a new poll carried out by research company Skop shows.

"Who do you believe is the most skilful at running a government? Is it Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt or the Social Democrat leader Stefan Löfven?," the pollsters asked.

63.4 percent of respondents of the survey answered in Reinfeldt's favour, increasing the current prime minister's lead with 3.7 percent since before the summer.

Among supporters of the opposition parties - the Social Democrat Party, the Left Party and the Green Party - 29 percent believe Reinfeldt is the most skilful leader.

Among supporters of the centre-right coalition government - the Moderate party, the Liberals (Folkpartiet) and the Centre Party - four percent believe that Löfven is the most skilful.

The prime minister's support is the strongest among the self-employed and those employed in the private sector. He also has particularly strong support among voters in big city areas.

In the Stockholm region, 72 percent believe that Reinfeldt is the most adept at running a government.

Skop interviewed 1,000 people between September 3rd and 24th.

And they asked a 1000 living in a moderates kommun ! Thelocal owner is probably a moderate who loves tax cuts and maybe funds alliance to keep them in power like many other big coperates and are against a law (thats why it didnt pass in the parliament) which must show where the funds come from, wheres as the socialdemocrats are with this law and not funded by huge coperates because they want to increase the tax for the rich !!! please stop brainwashing the readers .

It's a pretty silly question, actually. Of course Reinfeldt is viewed as more skilled at running a country; he has been doing it for nearly two terms now whereas Löfven has never headed a government. I would also answer "Reinfeldt" if asked that question even though I generally support the policies of Löfven's party. This poll does not mean that Reinfeldt's policies are preferred or even better than those proposed by the opposition.

"And they asked a 1000 living in a moderates kommun !"

Before you start spouting rubbish, go and read the full report (skop.se). While I think it's a failing that they don't explicitly state how the interviewees were picked (likely a list of phone numbers and a random number generator), the report does give some numbers where respondents have been divided into different categories. It is very clear that "Borgerliga" respondents were overwhelmingly in favor of Reinfeldt, particularly those leaning towards Moderaterna or Folkpartiet. However, nearly a quarter of those with sympathies closest to Socialdemokraterna felt that Reinfeldt was the more competent. Miljöpartiet sympathisers were evenly split.

It may well be that StockholmSam is right, that people see Reinfeldts experience at the post as the crucial factor. I wouldn't discount the report as pointless because of it thoush, as it still shows that people felt that Reinfeldt has been a very competent leader. I can think of many politicians whose competence ratings would likely go down after a few years with power ;).
