A man who went missing on Thursday was found dead in the trunk of a vehicle by a volunteer search team in western Sweden on Sunday.

“A body was found in luggage compartment of a vehicle outside of the man’s workplace. The police had to come to open the vehicle,” said Peder Schillerström of Missing People, a volunteer search party, to the TT news agency.

The deceased man, 41, had suffered damage to his head, according to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Some 150 people joined in the search for the man, including the volunteer team from Missing People, a Swedish organization where volunteers help locate people that have disappeared.

“We searched a large area, both along the coast and in the wooded area near the man’s work,” Schillerström told the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper (GP).

“As the man had left his work without his outer clothes but with his car keys, we decided to investigate the car as thoroughly as we could. We discovered that there was something in the trunk and we alerted the police."

When officers arrived on the scene on Sunday afternoon, they forced open the back door of the vehicle and confirmed the suspicions of the search party.

“We found a dead person in Uggledal at 3pm. An investigation has been launched, but I cannot say anything more,” said Ingemar Johansson of the Västra Götaland police to the paper.

According to Schillerström, the police could not rule out that a crime had been committed.

My wife was out in the woods with the kids when the huge search party came combing by. It's curious the vehicle wasn't checked earlier. Guy was found about 600m from my house. Creepy.

You need to decide, Local, if it was a car boot, a trunk or a luggage compartment.

British English is "(car) boot".

"Damage" is not the word used when it's a person. The word is injury or injuries.

Damage is only to objects.

There are other minor errors.
