When a Swedish mother opened a package of baby food a few days ago she found herself face to face with a litter of dead rat pups.

"It is so disgusting; I don't know how it could have happened," Linn Kvick told the local Nerikes Allehanda daily.

The offending article was a four pack of fruit purée produced by Nestlé and purchased at a store in Degefors in western Sweden.

According to the report in the newspaper, the heads of three of the rat pups could be seen quite clearly and gave Kvick quite a fright.

"She came over to me screaming, at first I didn't have a clue what the matter was," Kvick's partner Henrik Andersen said.

The small rodents were dried out and are presumed to have been in the packaging for an extended period of time. Nestlé has since announced that it plans to investigate.

The family were however critical of the firm's response when they called to report the matter.

"I was disappointed by the reception, they didn't seem to think it was such a big deal," Linn Kvick said.

The experience has made the family wary of buying the firm's products.

"Every time I eat, I think about this," Henrik Andersen told Nerikes Allehanda.

Since Nestle took over Cadbury chocolate and they changed the recipe people in the UK are not buying their chocolates anymore. It's a french company so what do you expect from their customer service.

Sounds like they got sold a pup (or two).

But regarding the previous comment, wasn't it Kraft that took over Cadbury, making it an American company, not French??

Definitely Kraft took over Cadbury ;-)

Nestle is technically a Swiss company, not French. Minor detail, but quite a few Swiss citizens will be very upset if yu refer to them as being French ;)

Smarties, Rowntree Mackintosh, Rolo, Galaxy/Milky Bar, KitKat, After Eight and Quality Street are among the UK chocolate confenctionary product lines they own... no Cadbury though :)

Regarding rodents in the covering packaging material outside the fruit cups for children.

We were very concerned to receive the consumer's complaint and immediately launched an investigation through the manufacturing and storage process.

The consumer has provided the product for analysis.

We have not received any other complaints related to this product batch, but we always take such reports very seriously and investigate thoroughly. The safety and quality of our products are a non-negotiable priority for the company.

We would like to reassure consumers that all our facilities have strict food quality and safety procedures in place, including pest control and quality checks at the different stages of our manufacturing and storage process.
