Oinking Sweden Democrat MP steps down

Sweden Democrat MP Lars Isovaara is leaving all of his political duties after he reportedly snuffled and spat in contempt at a parliamentary security guard, party leader Jimmie Åkesson announced on Thursday.

"It's very hard to have confidence in anything he says," Åkesson told reporters.
“We had no reason to question him initially. We reacted to the information we had, now we have other information.”
Isovaara reportedly oinked like a pig and spat at a security guard in the early hours of Wednesday morning after he had reported a robbery.
He called the Expressen newspaper himself and urged them to publish the story, however the paper later published information that suggested the robbery never took place.
Isovaara had left his belongings behind in a Stockholm restaurant.
Police on the scene reported Isovaara for racial abuse following his attack on the guards.
The Sweden Democrats withdrew their earlier statement claiming Isovaara had been robbed by two "unknown, immigrant-background men".
Isovaara will be replaced by 24-year-old Markus Wiechel, the district chair for the Sweden Democrats in Östergötland County, who has previously been convicted of slander.
Despite the conviction, Åkesson said that Wiechel could still represent the party.
“If you look at what he was convicted for it’s about things that were written on his blog. We don’t consider it to be so serious that he can’t represent the party,” Åkesson told reporters.
The party will also help Isovaara fight his personal issues.
"There are personal problems connected to these incidents, so our party will also offer him help,” Åkesson said.

For all the work Jimmy Åkesson is doing to humanise and brush up SD, his colleagues seem to be working just as hard to undermine that and say "guess what, we are still a bunch of racist, mysoginist idiots who cannot walk, because we have one foot permanently installed in our collective mouths... mainly because if we take the foot out of the mouth, some unfortunate opinions seem to come out with it as well".
For some reason, yet to be explained by the Swedish press or The Local, Jimmie and what's left of his party get even more popular as each scandal goes by.
The other Swedish parties take months to deal with this sort of thing, and even then, usually come up with a bucket of white wash finding that everybody behaved splendidly, and no rules were broken.
Until now, Jimmie's and the Swedish media's handling of these scandals seems to be working in the Sweden Democrats' favor. Why? The other political parties, and the media are in hyper-drive rubbishing the Sweden Democrats and despite everything they write and say, all that happens is that the Sweden Democrats get even more popular. Why? Something wierd is going on here, and no one is looking into it.
Oh well! Bring on the next drunken Sweden Democrat behaving badly.
I'm sorry to say a Novus /TV4 poll announced today put the SD's on 8.4 percent. 2.1 percent higher than Novus last poll figure taken in October. At least that's what the Local reported this morning.
It's only one poll, but it's a really wierd result. As you say, these recent shenanigens should have crushed them. Maybe other polls over the next few days will be more in line with expectations. If they aren't, what is going on?
I'm studying in Finland, which has the True Finns party. The True Finns have been flagging in the most recent polls because of gaffes much less severe than the SD's. The party had a poor showing during the recent municipal elections. (The party gained only 12% of city council seats compared the 16% they were bombastically aiming for.) They will lose seats in upcoming elections if this is a trend.
Expect the SD to lose some or all of the voters it gained over the last year, before the scandals broke. The only people supporting the SD may only be its more loyal voters, and some of those may even bail because of Jimmie Akesson's handling of these situations.
