Managers sold jobs at McDonald's: report

Two managers at fast food chain McDonald's in Sweden are suspected of having sold work permits to illegal foreign workers.

The permits, which can ultimately lead to permanent residency status in Sweden, were sold together with the offer of jobs at one of the fast food restaurant's stores in Stockholm.

"It has come to our attention that there may have been criminal activity at one of our restaurants in the Stockholm area. We are looking very seriously at this and we filed a police report on November 5th," Håkan Ström, a press officer at McDonald's Sweden told the TT news agency.

The permits are reported to have been sold for around 100,000 kronor ($15,000) a piece, according to a report in the Expressen daily.

The managers are reported to have recruited staff from overseas with the promise of jobs and thus work permits.

One of the employees involved was, according to the newspaper, obliged to hand over between 3,000 and 11,000 kronor from his wage packet each month in order to pay the manager.

It is furthermore reported that when the recruited staff complained about having to hand over some of their earnings, they had been summoned to the manager's office for interrogation.

On at least one occasion the manager is suspected of having confiscated an employee's passport.

The two suspected managers have been suspended from their jobs pending police enquiries. The managers are reported to have denied the allegations.

Seriously, do they give WP for working in a McD? I wonder if this Is the level of work needed in Sweden to have foreigners for and intended by the WP law making.

This is one of the most poorly written articles I have seen on the Local, which is saying a lot. Aside from the absolutely dreadful grammar and the lack of style, any editor worth his salt would have noticed immediately that 100 000 kronor is not $1,500.

Sweden is full of bengali restaurant owners who take bengali students, hiring illegal workers, giving them less than half the wages.

Sweden, get ready before every illegal people come and kill the economy as it happened in UK.

Sweden is not in position to take refugees and spend billions on them.

Act before its too late!!

@Nora ,

there are many reasons why some employers prefer foreighners . Swedn made a name for exporting baby-sitters to USA , Canada and Other countries . Should one ask if it is not possible to find a nany in USA `s 300 million people ?

hi to all readers,

The article is well written and the writer has highlighted the issue of illegal trade of incompetent and inexperienced workers even Swedish labor market do not need these workers at all. This article is based on reality and I personally have investigated some of the workers who have been affected by the managers, though I am not working in McDonalds. The managers are not swedes, they are from foreign backgrounds and have been serving in Rissene McDonalds branch.

The author of this article has mentioned some indicators of money and they are correct as for as I know too. Police is investigating this case very seriously and the criminals will face the justice as soon as the case is finalized from the concerned authorities.

some people are blaming that swedes are responsible for minimum wages. I am not agree with this point. The swedish wage law is much clearer and there is no ambiguity. The minimum wage is 13000 SEK and the skatt rate is also mentioned. The illegal workers even know everything and they make deals with their employers that they will pay from their salaries every month. In many cases employers are fraudulent. so both parties are responsible for their actions.

in both case we employers are employees are criminals not Swedish labor system.

In the offer of employment, employers write more salaries such as 20000 etc just to get work permit for their employees.

we can not blame swedish people. we must tell the truth.

Finally, I will encourage the the write of this article and especially the The Local management who found the true story and published on the net to create awareness among people.

regards,

moon

The manager sold the permit and the employee bought that and who is guilty here?

The people gone mad to buy the permit to enter Europe any how! The Companies pay a lot (tax, employer tax, moms, income tax, many types of fees, salaries, insurances etc.) so Govt, has to consider them too. On the other side employee pays income tax only, and govt, has to confirm their rights and insurances too.

The whole thing is complicated.

The managers know that employees need permits and they have to sacrifice, the employees know that too. So let them sacrifice that they have decided together.

If employee does not like it send them back home. And then see, i promise no one will complaint again.
