Occultism claims mar Swedish Christmas show

A Catholic priest and several angry viewers have attacked Swedish state broadcaster SVT, claiming its annual Christmas television special promotes occultism.

Specifically, the complaints filed against the current installment of Sveriges Television's (SVT) Julkalendar ('Christmas Calendar') take issue with scenes in which children in the show are depicted playing 'Anden i glaset', a Swedish version of the ouija board.

"As a practicing Christian, I think 'anden i glaset' is one of the most stupid games children could play," said priest Zbigniew Golebiewski at Saint Anna congregation in Nyköping in central Sweden told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

"There could be very real consequences for people's spiritual and psychological welfare."

Golebiewski has advised members of his congregation to not allow their children to watch Julkalender, which runs from December 1st through Christmas Eve and is has evolved into a cultural staple of Swedish children's holiday entertainment since its launch back in 1960.

This year's show, entitled "Mysteriet på Greveholm - Grevens återkomst" ('The Mystery of Greveholm Castle - The Earl's Return'), features ghosts and children trying to solve the aforementioned mystery.

Sweden's Broadcasting Standards Agency (Granskningsnämnden) has so far received seven letters of complaint from members of the public.

SVT confirmed that they had also received several complaints directly from viewers.

"We have freedom of religion in Sweden and people are free to believe in what they want. We try to give space to many different voices," the show's script writer Dan Zethraeus told the paper.

Zethraeus did not take the priest's criticism to heart:

"This particular Julkalendern doesn't promote his religion, that is true."

Can't help but notice that the only group CAUSING harm to people's "psychological and spiritual welfare" are nutjobs like this priest who try to legitimise superstitious nonsense.

Less nutjobs in Sweden, please.

a christian priest complaining. where do you start? well in australia with a royal commission to nail these scumbags to the wall for the abuse they have perpetrated for many centuries. christianity has as much credibility as scientology.

ie complete rubbish.

yet they seem to think its OK to vilify women and to demand the right to beat children in school ( yes still legal to beat a child with a stick in christian and jewish schools in australia ) I mean beat. a cane rod as thick as a grown mans finger wielded with force.

they demand the right to deny children access to freely available information as long as possible to give them more time to brainwash them into believing the world is flat and that a broken down old man has a direct phone line to a god. it is laughable. its beyond laughable. its absurd in the extreme.

still here in sickla kaj I have to put up with a loud bell ringing every half hour over the weekend for half a dozen loons.

unbelievable.

we dont have to lighten up. religion is a cancer that needs to be eradicated and replaced with the truth.

Can't help but point out that the only people doing harm to people's "psychological and spiritual welfare" are nutjobs like this priest who legitimise superstitious nonsense no different to the purported effects of rhino horn.

Less nutjobs in Sweden, please.

why doesn't this bludger (as all priests are just long-term unemployed with a method of creaming the system) focus his attentions on complaining to have the outdated, repetitive, BORING, racist, anti-semite crap that i'm forced to sit through every xmas at 3pm removed from our screens and replaced with some contemporary xmas cartoon for kids that changes each year?

Well, helloooo!

Play ouija board can cause severe psychological problems. This is real!! Children are easily influenced and this game can be dangerous for them.

To me, the greatest cult threat to children and their free-will is the Catholic Church.

As someone who comes from a culture that was the victim of Catholic state-endorsed genocide, I can only tell you folks that the Catholic church and the nutjob running the show, need to be stopped. In Canada (yes Canada), the Roman Catholic church was put in charge of many residential schools, whose sole job was to assimilate the indian into Canadian society through education. Four generations of First Nations (Indian) people went to these schools as it was required by law to attend from the ages of 3-18.

Rampant abuse happened at these school and only recently has the Canadian govt. made an apology and offered financial compensation to those who attended. Meanwhile the Catholic church has not apologized to First Nations and probably never will. The grip they have on the older generation is cult-like and if any of the younger generation speak out, they are chastised. Quite frankly, I think we should wait until the very last baptised Catholic passes away in our territories and burn every last Catholic church down and forever ban them from our territory.

The Catholic church was ten times more efficient in the destruction of First Nations than the US Calvary and the Spanish conquistadors combined on their best day.

Swedes do yourselves a favour, and ignore this nutjob priest.

Practicing occultism or catholicism amounts to the same thing: the suppression of free thought, the choice to believe rather than reason, aspiring the absurd, and, bluntly put, the promotion of stupidity. I have no sympathy for ouija board players or for priests of any kind. They both represent ignorance. In fact, priests are more dangerous because they will argue that the occultism they practice `is true' merely because lots of others are practicing it.

So boring... Why do Catholics like to stick their noses everywhere?...

Christmas is a very trivial and commercialized thing. I felt it even before going addicted to Satan.
