Urinating man killed by subway train

A 21-year-old man died Saturday night after falling on to the tracks of a Stockholm subway station.

The man was urinating by the edge of the platform at the Medborgarplatsen station in Stockholm's Södermalm district at around 1am.

He slipped, fell on the tracks and got hit by an onrushing train, Lars-Erik Hedberg of the Södermalm police told Radio Stockholm.

He probably died instantly, said Hedberg.

"The air pressure from the approaching train could have contributed to him losing his balance," Jonas Palm of the Stockholm police told news agency TT.

Police suspect the 21-year-old could have been drunk.

His friend said it was not a suicide, reported Radio Stockholm.

An investigation is underway but police do not suspect any criminal act. The current assumption is that it was an accident and that the man was not pushed.

Hedberg said he was not aware of any witnesses having been called for questioning.

The subway train was evacuated after the accident and traffic was temporarily halted.

The 21-year-old man lived in south Stockholm.

Just another modern form of natural selection.

hello from edinburgh ,scotland..oh dear this is a very sad and painful time for some,....but may i suggest that ..johan and of course, lowlowlowyin are in fact mindless and idiot unacheived cretins which would be no use in a hospital or their neighbours area because they do not give a hoot...so i suggest they should have some genuine education.

Thanks for the compliments, although I would have expected rather more potent invective from Scotland. Perhaps you were almost sober when you posted your comments, that might explain it.

Can't speak for Lowlin, but over the years rI've responded to many thousands of road traffic accidents, fires, explosiions, plane crashes, train wrecks, homicides, suicides and just about any other gruesome accident you can imagine. I know a bit about these things by now, and reserve my compassion for those who deserve it. Idiots who kill themselves through sheer stupidity don't make the list.

"Police suspect the 21-year-old could have been drunk."

How very perceptive of the Swedish police.

Very sad, another young life lost.

I rebuke the low life school opinion of natural selection simply because #1, it is insensitive to the families of the lost and loved ones and #2, because it is totalitarian and we don't really need any more 'arians' thank you. Show some compassion unless you have some way of decoding every misfortune of accident, alcohol related or not. As for the self proclaimed paramedic, you have no understanding of the Hippocratic Oath by which you would normally be bound if you think to diagnose a death justified as 'Idiots who kill themselves through sheer stupidity'. Just sayin', go figure, duh.

Subway stations needs a new design. Everything is about only one step and never stumble on the yellow line. There must be a solution.
