Centre Party plumbs new lows: poll

The Centre Party fell to its lowest result since 1967 in a new voters' poll published on Sunday following weeks of turbulence surrounding the party's new programme.

The party polled 3.2 percent in the Sifo poll published in the Svenska Dagbladet daily on Sunday, below the threshold for Riksdag seats.

The poll comes following weeks of crisis for the party after a rift opened over the new party programme which included radical new ideas on immigration, polygamy and changes to compulsory education.

Party leader Annie Lööf was forced to cut short her holiday in early January in order to return to Sweden to deal with an ongoing crisis stemming from opposition to the platform, set to be presented at the party's conference on February 5th.

Lööf has since tried to stem the flow of criticism from some party members by reiterating her desire to jettison proposals legalizing polygamy and inheritance rights.

Talking to The Local last week, Lund University political scientist Mikael Sundström, explained that the party is in the midst of a transition and this has created conflict between more socially liberal and more libertarian members.

The Centre Party has been struggling in voter polls for several years but Sunday's poll is the lowest since 1967, when Sifo first began conducting regular surveys.

The major parties meanwhile advanced in the poll, with the Social Democrats up 1.5 percentage points to 33.6 and the Moderates climbing 1.1 points to 29.3 percent.

Sifo interviewed 1,935 voters between January 7th-17th and asked who they would vote for if an election were to be held today.

What about the SD, good news for them bad news for you?

It seems we are expecting a new era of Social Democratism! If either of KD or CP lose their seats Socials Democrats become the next government! Now it seems both of them are losing which practically means we should expect a Social Democrat government no matter what!!!

Full results for those interested. SD is the 3rd largest party right now, almost doubling their support from the last election despite constant demonisation by the green and liberal/marxist media of Sweden.

C 3,2 (-1,3)

FP 6,2 (+0,8)

M 29,3 (+1,1)

KD 4,5 (+0,9)

S 33,6 (+1,5)

V 4,6 (-1,3)

MP 9,0 (-0,7)

SD 9,1 (-0,9)

Can't they dump Oofa Lööfa. She's not very good at her job.
20:56 January 20, 2013 by NyDag
Yep that's what happens when you propose bigotry be legalized and propose that any tom dick or harry can just come to the country and start sponging off it. Lööf is the biggest moron i've come across in years in politics, and that's saying a lot,

It is interesting some are very interested in SD vote! The fact is that they can never participate in Swedish governance unless they reach 50% of the vote! So in practice they can only weaken the right coalition which will eventually help Social Democrats to come to power.

The reality is that other Swedish parties find themselves too far from SD that there is no chance to make a coalition. There is more chance that Moderates join Socials democrats than SD. On the other hand this 9% can never reach 40 or 50 % to create a government. A typical Swede will always remain supporter of Social Democrats and a typical middle class businessman one will always remain with those who understand economy like Moderates and not some red-tempered low educated guys no matter what happens to Sweden and no matter how right SD is!!!

Perhaps, but it's more than enough for them to make an appointment for you to meet your 72 virgins if the situation turned south. I have two words for you..."Golden Dawn", it's just a matter of time before the right-wings accross europe will adapt to their tactics. Nobody counts on the swedes to initiate anything, but other countries might not sit back and let their countries overrun by your illiterate clans. When that happened, believe me it's very hard to contain.

14:57 January 21, 2013 by Iraniboy
You don't know even the name of the office you are talking about let alone talking about being open or closed !!! In Sweden we usually do not visit offices. Thanks to recent technology you can do everything online ;)

Well, I guess the clueless lefty fools in living in the lilly white fortress of Vasastan found out that a platform catering entirely to immigrants isn't going to fly these days...

Congratulations on sending a whole flock of new voters to SD.
