Of course the most popular names are not original! That's the thing about them. If there was thousands of people who got the name Murgatroyd each year it wouldn't be original eighter.
What I find rather funny is that parents who choose one of the most popular names always go "But we chose it _before_ it was popular. We thought Elias/Elsa/Alva was a unique name."
The Anglo-cultural conquest of Sweden goes deep.
I am one of the ones that chose Alice for their childrens name so I guess I must be a wannabee and I guess by your thoughts I must be wide at the hips. One thing your right about is that I did spend a year in Oz.
@ Emerentia, we did chose the name before we found out it was listed as one of the most popular names 2011 and also before the bookies came up with it as runner for Princess Estelles name. We were contemplating changing it but thought why should we, we love the name thats why we chose it.
It's like going to...like McDonalds and ordering a Big Mac and then tell people "I had this very unique meal at a place you probably havn't heard of. Very special and original!" and when you tell them that that choice isn't that original really, they go "Oh, but we choose it before everybody else did/we had no idea that other people choose that to!".
Yeah, right...
She was born last year however we chose the name in 2011 before that popularity poll came out for 2011. We were hoping to have a name that wasnt in the top three as people might think thats why we chose it and even if you look at this link you will see it hasn't been very popular until recently again. http://www.yeahbaby.com/world-name-popularity.php?name=Alice
We also thought that if it was number one in 2011 it was probably unlikely to be the same two years in a row. Its not that we want a totally unique name or anything but we just dont want people thinking that we chose it because it was the most popular name or because some famous person had that name. As I said after the poll came out we were thinking about changing the name but loved it so much that we decided to keep it.
@ snowtiger Mohamed is nr 54 on the list. @ HenryPollard Wilhelm is nr 64 on the list. Ville (a nickname for people called William or Wilhelm, like Willy) is nr 62.
