Swede convicted of dual-use nuke exports to Iran

A Swedish man has been convicted of knowingly trying to export dual-use technology to Iran, where it could be used as part of nuclear arms production.

In an email to his customer in Iran, the 31-year-old man wrote that the producers of the two valves at the centre of the case were not aware of where they were going to be sent.

The court in Lund, southern Sweden, therefore ruled that he had knowingly sent the technology to Iran, which faces several trade restrictions due to concerns from the international community that the country is planning to develop a nuclear arsenal.

The man does not face jail time, as the court issued a suspended sentence because he has no previous criminal record, nor was he deemed likely to re-offend.

Swedish customs officials discovered the shipment in 2011. It was then on its way to Dubai, allegedly to throw off the scent of its real destination.

Analysts say that the non-corrosive valves can be used in the oil and gas industry, but that the equipment is of such high quality that it is unlikely they would be used for anything but uranium enrichment.

Dual-use refers to technology that can be used in a nuclear programme even though it ordinarily employed in other industries.

Please tell me what you mean by INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY?! Is it International community of USA and ISRAEL which other European countries ONLY follow their orders without any sense of understanding?!!! Come on man! This propaganda is only to target OIL wells of Iran after Iraq and Afghanistan and of course people are the real victims...

Target oil wells? So tell me then brainiac, how much oil did American get from Afghanistan? Also, since you are an astute observer of the petroleum industry, then you must know how many American oil companies bid for Iraqi oil fields since 2003.

The answer to both of those questions is ZERO.

Be more creative in the future with your assertions on while America went after Iraq and Afghanistan. You are accusing the article of propaganda when you yourself are swayed by a different propaganda at the same time. Calling the kettle black eh?

Exxon Mobil

Occidental Petroleum

Murphy Oil

Marathon Oil

well....these are some of the foreign companies who were bidding for oil projects in Iraq post 2003, And of course these are just a few names in the long list of foreign oil companies.

Now of course when you fight a multibliion dollar war, oil cannot be just the only benefit.

About Afganistan, oil is not the only natural resource that we use....

And where did you get the ZERO! Of course it's for oil, controlling the oil and oil reserves. The military attack on Afghanistan (war on terror) gave the Washington the pretext for a huge pentagon budget increase and building a ring of permanent U.S military bases from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan (deep inside former Soviet Union territory). The removal of Taliban also gave the U.S. to distribute heroin in the world (managed by CIA).

The only region of the world which still has significant undeveloped oil at low cost is in the Middle East (65% or more of the world's remaining oil reserves).

As it has been mentioned by William Engdahl in his book "a century of war: Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Order":

"At the start of the new millennium, the U.S held a near monopoly on military technology and might. It commanded the world's reserve currency and with it was able to control the assets of much of the industrial world. Following the occupation of the oil field of Iraq, one power, The U.S now commanded a near monopoly on future energy resources. The Pentagon had a term for it 'full spectrum dominance.' It meant that the U.S should control military, economic and political developments, everywhere."

What a disgrace! Of course he had to hide it! Every Iranian knows that exporting a pack of Yoyo to Iran should be hidden too. It doesn't mean it is related to Nuclear programme! It is due to illogical and barbaric full export ban to Iran that everything should be so hidden!

Sure thing Iraniboy. Why don't you go back to Iran, that way when Israel bombs your country off the planet, you will no longer be around to make stupid comments.

I prefer and encouraged to live in Sweden because the number of mentally challenged people like you are high in Israel, Iran and similar countries!

Iraniboy,

I have been around long enough on these forums to know your ilk, and you know mine. We have chosen our sides. Good luck on the losing end.

@calebian22

That's the main problem of people like you! You choose sides rather than being critical and engaging your own brain for analysis and decision taking.
