Centre Party ditches polygamy proposal

Sweden's Centre Party has ditched proposals allowing for polygamy and changes to inheritance rights from its new party programme following rifts in the party.

The party leadership is set to present its new platform at the least next week and is due for confirmation at an extraordinary congress in March.

"We are not finished yet. Much work remains to be done," said vice chair Anders W Jonsson to the TT news agency following a meeting of the party executive.

Jonsson pointed that there are volumes of text which are now being put together.

Party leader Annie Lööf has however confirmed that two controversial proposals - to legalize polygamy and to change inheritance laws - have been discarded.

When the proposals were first presented just prior to Christmas they caused a great deal of attention.

Party members across the country reacted to the programme which furthermore included proposals for a flat tax and a removal of immigration controls.

"A lot has been added and a lot has been taken away and much has been rephrased," said Anders W Jonsson.

The new party programme however does not have the unanimous support of the party executive.

"There will be reservation, that's guaranteed," said party executive member Frederik Federley.

"We are not going to go into details. We have processed so much text so we have to see everything in black and white before we go in and comment," he said.

What a pity. Had Lööf become the fourth wife of a bearded Swede from Rosengård, the Center Party's poll figures would have shot up. Right off the charts, no doubt.

Have you ever seen any of your Muslim friend to have more than one wife?

Islam haters always barks like a mad dog, but you guys do not know that Islamic law much more advance and superior than the law we keep changing every year.

Islam is the Only religion which tell us to only MARRY ONE, no other religious books tell you that, If you look at Christianity and Hindu and others many of their icons had over thousands wives and there is no stop or limit on their holy books, but ISLAM came with a solution and before you think about marrying another wife, ISLAM warns of you of HELL FIRE and asking you that if you agree to the terms then you can marry up to 4 but if you cant support then you better avoid hell fire and marry only one.

I came from Islamic country and by God in 25 years of living there I only saw one of our relatives had two wives and they were very happy.

I dont know what is wrong in democratic land where gays can marry another man then it is strange to marry a second wife? but it is OK to change sex partners each month.

have you ever counted how many girls and boys you had sex since the age 12 in Europe?

How many sex partners? How many were infected by HIV? lol every Saturday night one new sex partner?

As long as the first wife is happy to allow her husband to marry a second, then i do agree that we should allow it.

remember dat we are not from the cave on this forum, where our only source of information is from the mullah. Muslims all over the world have wives. You cannot imagine it happening in sweden. The other wives are usually not registered in europe because of bigamy charge. Adam go to muslim countriees hardly u will find one dat is not polygamous. Even the poor marry wives. They even marry 8 year old girls to 50 year old men. We call paedofile here but is in the holy book in your religion. Everything in the holy book must be obeyyed without question. Wake up to the real world@sons of adam

About HIV it is difficult to find out in islamic world because they hide it. My friend worked as a nurse in saudi for 3 years. What he saw there like HIV, drug abuses, homosexualism are never reported in the media. He saw it and not that he was toid. Do you want to tell me that muslims do not have hiv. In my profession i have seen many hiv positive muslims especially from a particular muslim country.

The only solution Mohamed has brought is blood letting and chaos.

You might as well stick a fork in this party. They are pretty much leaderless right now and I think it is too late to right the ship. Lööf is a pitiful excuse for a party chief. It seems they are trying to build support by gathering together a hodge-podge of ideas that only fringe morons would support. As far as polygamy is concerned, I wonder if they even considered the fact that by and large that is an extremely conservative patriarchal concept. How many wives would marry multiple husbands? Not many would, regardless of the laws, and it would pander only to nutcase control-freak men.

Polygamy? It is already happening among the Swedes themselves. It is When they have multiple partners, or cheating on their partners...
19:05 February 16, 2013 by Logic_and_Reason
Don't be silly, icedearth. Polygamy entails legal marriage and all of the responsibilities that follow such. Mere infidelity does not carry the same legal consequences, especially in Sweden.

Why does the Centre Party exist at all?
21:46 February 16, 2013 by icedearth
Yes Logic and Reason having multiple partners carrying no responsibilities and no legal consequences. I am not for Polygamy to be legalized in Sweden or Europe, but I do not like the double standards.

When you are the Center Party, it means you stand for anything and everything. No morals, no principle, anything goes.
13:15 February 18, 2013 by Jes
I don`t get it !

If it is okey for a man to proudly marry another man , why is it so terrible for a man to marry more than one wife , or a man to marry several men ?

We have cleared to road , ; let let those who want to drive just get on with it.

@voiceofreason talks of morals and priciples . But does he understand that "morals and principles" tend to neutralize the liberalism that Sweden stands for ?

Why is so difficult to figure out that this is more about "rights & freedom" than it is about Islam ?

Be British, be sincere and be bold »

"Sweden is a veritable smorgåsbord for UK business. I see our work as a bit like a kind of dragon’s den for both for larger and smaller British companies. It is about matching the UK companies, not with cash, but with Swedish market opportunities." READ »
