Three Swedes won Oscars at Sunday night's Academy Awards in Los Angeles, with director Malik Bendjelloul's Searching for Sugar Man winning for best documentary.

"Oh boy, thank you so much," a jubilant Malik Bendjelloul said as he accepted the award in at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted in LA on Sunday night.

"Thanks to the academy, very very kind, and thanks to one of the greatest singers ever, Rodriguez."

The statuette was Bendjelloul's first but comes after a long line of accolades for his film that tells the tale of two South Africans seeking more information about mysterious 1970s rock 'n' roller Rodriguez

Bendjelloul's film also picked up a BAFTA in the same category, together with a string of nods from the Guldbagge Awards in Sweden.

Two more Swedes took home awards on the night.

Per Hallberg was awarded the statuette for Best Sound Editing for his work on Skyfall. It was his third award in the category following his work on Braveheart and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Another Swede, Paul NJ Ottosson, also won in the same category for his work on Zero Dark Thirty.

"It was so funny," he told the Dagens Nyheter newspaper.

"I was actually sitting there talking to a colleague before about what would happen if there was a tie - and it happened. It's exceptional."

Ottosson pointed to the fact that there are not as many voters in the minor categories, making a tie much more likely.

The win was also Ottosson's third.

Best Actress went to Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook. Best Picture went to Ben Affleck's Argo, Best Director to Ang Lee for Life of Pi and best screenplay to Quentin Tarantino for Django Unchained.

Mazel Tov to Malik Bendjelloul. Remember that in the eyes of many Swedes you will always be an invandrare. SF turned you away and now you have an Oscar to show for your good work....Malik, do you know the Swedish police are going about harassing dark skin people? Stay in the US Malik, you are better off living there...

Sweden didn't contribute anything to these awards except that the winners are rare breed of Swedish nationals working abroad who can think outside the box. Sorry to be negative. At least New Zealander, Peter Jackson made his films in New Zealand. So, therefore, his nation can share claim in his Oscars because of support and contribution.

Jack, that's exactly right. I heard Malik got chased away by SF and a few others when he approached them to get some money for his great project.
