Three years' detention for Sunne killing

An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to three years' secure youth detention for killing a 20-year-old who disappeared last spring in Sunne , 50km north of Karlstad . The victim was found several days later in Sunne harbour.

According to the initial post mortem the victim had drowned but visible injuries on his body prompted police to continue their investigations.
The 18-year-old was an acquaintance of the dead man and had spoken out in the media about friends' concern for their missing friend. He was suspected early on by police and admitted assaulting the 20-year-old. However, he denied killing his friend.
In its verdict, Värmland district court noted that the killer would have been sentenced to 10 years in prison if he had been 21 when the crime was committed.
