Princess Madeleine most desirable Swedish Valentine

With Valentine's Day looming large on the horizon, a new survey has shown that Sweden's singles would like nothing more than to share an evening with their favourite celebrities.

If the preferences of more than 1,000 users of dating website meetic.se are anything to go by, pretty Princess Madeleine and swoonsome thespian Michael Nyqvist can expect to be wading through piles of scented mail and fawning rhymes this Thursday.

Participants in the poll were also asked who they would most like to cook their Valentine's meal and whose wardrobe they would raid if given half a chance.

Results show that 29 percent of single Swedish men are keen to be seen out and about with the youngest daughter of King Karl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

But the 25-year-old princess doesn't have it all her own way. TV show hostess and former Big Brother contestant Carolina Gynning seems to have lost nothing of her gravitas since removing her breast implants last year - she is the date of choice for 18 percent of single males.

And despite the Prime Minister's wife being very obviously taken, 6 percent of single gents would jump at the opportunity of a romantic meal with Filippa Reinfeldt.

Tilde Fröling (12 percent) and Carin da Silva (9 percent), stars of hit TV show Let's Dance, will also be swept off their feet on Valentine's Day if the men have their way.

At the other end of the scale, successful businesswoman Christina Stenbeck (0 percent) and style guru Ebba von Sydow (1 percent) could be waiting all night to be invited onto the dancefloor.

As for single women, 26 percent of those surveyed say they would quite fancy an evening out with rugged 47-year-old actor Michael Nyqvist.

The generation gap is bridged somewhat by 21-year-old singer Måns Zelmerlöv, whose boyish good looks attract the attention of 19 percent of eligible bachelorettes.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic polls a creditable 11 percent, whereas last year's blogging sensation Alex Schulman (0 percent) can perhaps count himself lucky to already have secured a wife.

A full 42 percent of respondents, male and female, would choose likable celebrity chef Tina Nordström to prepare their romantic meal.

To avoid first date fashion disasters, 28 percent of men say they would like to be suited and booted by TV presenter Peter Jihde (28 percent), while 34 percent of women flirt with the idea of slipping into a frock from Princess Madeleine's vast collection.

While still a style icon, footballer Freddie Ljungberg (26 percent) sees his Calvins decline. And despite undergoing a recent image makeover, Victoria Silvstedt, Playboy's Playmate of the Year for 1997, gets nul points from the female jury.
