WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange won bail from a British court Tuesday over sex crimes claims but must stay in jail for at least another night after Swedish prosecutors appealed against the decision.

It seems that while he was still in Sweden they decided not to continue with the case againt him thus missing the opportunity to question him; then after he left Sweden for England changed the decision and decided that they wanted to interview him in light of possible "secondary" rape charges. It is also noticable that under Swedish legal system neither of the girls have actually made the allegations it is the Swedish prosecution service who have decided to persue Aggagne - but why in that case do the women have a lawer representing them and a champion of women's rights at that?
The challenge to the extreemly harsh bail conditions seem to strengthen the view that he is being persecuted or is this simple a sign of an incompetent and struggling Swedish prosecution?
It appears that Sweden is simply being vindictive.
Why should the CIA create allegations if they can find some women who were disappointed that they were not the only ones that Assange had sex with? It is always better to use some grain of truth to start a smear campaign.
Bildt on the other hand barks and fetches sticks.
Bit too late. Sweden's reputation is already badly tarnished..
Does this about cover it??? It appears that like few Americans, few Swedes fully comprehend the security state they exist in and the absolute corruption which that entails.
I wish the taxes I pay would go to something a bit more worthwhile then Marianne Ny and her vendetta ...
create some security problems for a country, here in this case was Stockholm blast, offer security and intelligence services in return to keep clear for further attacks, mean while told opposition government that is "Sweden Democrats" to pop up into the scene, and then keep pressure on governing authority from both sides,,leave no other option for them only to keep "Assange" in jail by allegations.
if some body said no meanwhile,,make one more blast,, and then put responsibility to some specific society from here they can get all fuel to keep so called war on terror going on............
Meanwhile, I think it is a stupid way that Assange deals with his legal trouble. He is supposed to accept interrogation in Sweden, He already have stayed behind bar for a week and rest of the period like a house arrest in Britain, which gov. has much better relationship with US. I am not sure he would be in custody much longer in Sweden than in UK.
In such a funny "rape" case, I think he would lose less freedom in Sweden, unless the entire Swedish system has been corruptive. The British does not seems to be nicer with their bail conditions.
"Meanwhile, I think it is a stupid way that Assange deals with his legal trouble. He is supposed to accept interrogation in Sweden"
Are you just dumb to make the above statement? Did Assange leave Sweden through some secret Back door? Why did your intelligent Ny tell him he was free to WALK and then issues a warrant of arrest for him when he left
Are you even aware that this same Assange asked for a residence permit and was turned down? So why should he now just pick his bag and hop along to Sweden just because an incompetent NY tells him to do so?
GROW UP
I'm sure the sexual misconduct charges (not rape) won't hold up in court. Assange should stop running and grow a pair. If he is innocent what has he got to run from? The court should acquit him and if it doesn't then surely this would shine a light upon the whole corrupt system?
I doubt this has anything to do with the US and everything to do with crazy 68 style feminism gone mad even in the so called conservative party. You can barely look at a woman without being accused of having commited rape in your mind.
In the surreal world of Swedish justice, even thought is a crime....
That is very interesting and I think says far more into the case the Swedish govt. has against J.A.
Since they have no real case to speak of they just want him here... after which remember that old saying "Possession is...".
Now we know: Sweden couldn't care less - the US, that we already knew, thanks also to Wikileaks.
An organized hypocrisy, that's what is about.
I can't imagine the US would want him in a nice place like Sweden's jails when Turkey, Columbia or Korea is available.
Look I'm Nostradomus "I predict his life and his buddies will be a living hell from here on in".
Assange deserves all the grief he gets, while Sweden deserves all the ridicule it gets for such a bogus arrest on such asisine grounds.
How can we be so ridiculous?
He's not going to flee the UK (as he has surrendered his passport).
If he does post bail, it will be with a lot of other people's money - no way he would damage his reputation by jumping bail.
Most importantly, the method of committing the crime of which he is accused (NB: not even charged) in Sweden ("rape" by way of having unprotected sex - by mutual consent, mind) is not a crime in the UK. How can he even be a danger to the British public if it's not even a crime here?
I'm trying hard to believe that Sweden's not acting as a stooge for the US government, but they're not really giving me much reason to.
Person or persons in the Swedish Armed Forces warn off friends from being in a specific area about the same time a "suicide bomber" -- who ends up killing no one but himself (remote-controlled bombs, anyone???).
FBI agents called in from America and may "coincidentally" be in Stockholm the very same time Assange happens to be extradited back.
Will "coincidences" never stop??????
Of course, the FBI agents will never, ever happen to find remote-controlled bombs on the person of the suicide bomber -- or they may be there to obscure that salient fact.
OK - older guy has sex with Wikileak groupies - condom bursts(unfortunate) - authorities recieve a complaint and dismiss it - OK - Swedish MP applies pressure to have case reopened - hmm bit fishy - Sweden spend a lot of money pursuing Assange without even charging him(including an appeal against bail even though he is to be tagged and has surrendered his passport) - nothing strange in that eh?
UK give bail to guy that S. Africa want to talk to on murder allegations but makes Assange jump through hoops?
Three organisations(at least)sever their connections with Wikileaks - all stating that they were not pressured by US govt.
It clearly all just a coincidence - you guys are well paranoid!

I really do hope that justice will prevail in this case. Only god knows?
The Guardian (London) published a letter from Sarah Ludford, MEP, on Dec 14, stating that the EAW (European Arrest Warrent) is only supposed to be used for '"the purposes of conducting a criminal prosecution", which [she says] must mean imminent charge followed by trial.' She cites the case of "Asztaslos last February, which confirmed that it is not a legitimate purpose for an EAW to be used to conduct an investigation to see whether that person should be prosecuted."

Those two sweden women are too brave.
All this is well known by every lawyer in the world with an interest in free speech. The English judge and Australian defence barrister tried as hard as they could not to be rude about the integrity of Sweden's legal system, but their disdain for Swedish justice was there for all to see.
In the eyes of the world, Sweden is now just another banana republic that uses the law to persecute instead of prosecute. If the US applies for extradition while JA is held in Swedish or English custody, Sweden's international reputation will be ruined for good. For the good of the Sweden, Fredrik Reinfeldt should set aside the usual rule not to interfere with a criminal prosecution, take control of the case, and hold a public enquiry. Everyone involved in this "persecution" should be suspended and questioned by SÄPO to see if they have been influenced by a foreign power.
Ok. I am going to try to sort it out for you a bit. Do you understand what a freedom of speech means? Look at Lars Vilks for example .. Julian was doing just that. So the same rule should apply to both Vilks and Assange, right? In a civilized country like Sweden we should not have double standard. Swedish people in general detest double standard practices. But it seems like general population are being misled and misinformed about this case through bias media.
As a global citizen protected by international law, JA has the right to exercise free speech just like you and everyone else have. He has taught the world that we need better and honest governments in order for us humans to have peaceful societies, etc etc. He should even be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
There have been enough comments and information about the baseless allegations against him so I will not write more.
From Daily Telegraph.

Not if the condom you have on at the start of the handshake remains on and intact throughout the transaction. (At least under American law.)
Why is there no news on Swedish websites about this? Your government wants to keep the ties to the USA a secret, so your parliament can't take a look at what's going on - they were afraid because of your strong sense of neutrality.
I think, your politicians have no clue how damaged the image of Sweden has become just because of the Assange persecution by Ny. And now it looks like even the swedish people have been lied to with the clear goal to avoid parlamentary control.
They do what they want in the first place; they trick you usually even over small offenses; they pull the wool over your eyes in the court room and a favorite thing to do in California is make you come back about 10 times over some small traffic ticket and you soon learn it is cheaper just to pay it even if innocent because they have their way of punishing you anyway.
There has been a huge movement to overpenalize people in America causing myriads of new jails and prisons tobe built. People have spent time in prison for smoking onejoint of marijuana. There is no fairness at all. The rich can do much better but even they can get skanked. There has also been a movement to convict people on "circumstantial evidence". There always was a movement to be hard on poor people and minorities. This is not a fair court system in America. So how about Sweden and UK. Somebody tell me. I am 64 now and female and have a pretty clean life slate free from crime record. Most people can't say tht in U.S. I have a high I.Q. and am world travelled and ecuated and I can tell you for sure: they do what they want to you; break every rule and then you have to sue them and that takes years. There is only submission and shut your mouth and forget it. Don't dwell on it, they say. Don't be bitter.
Looks like the FBI agents in Stockholm will not be needed to apprehend Assange. It is highly unlikely he will ever return to Sweden. Sweden had done its part in its role as US stooge. Assange will be held in the UK until the US completes is conspiracy charge against him at which time he will be extradited directly to the US.
"Federal prosecutors, seeking to build a case against the WikiLeaks leader Julian Assange for his role in a huge dissemination of classified government documents, are looking for evidence of any collusion in his early contacts with an Army intelligence analyst suspected of leaking the information."

Guess it is time to start asking why the alleged free press in Sweden is operating the way it is. If anything comes out of the Assange case other than Obama locking the guy up at Gitmo for the next several decades it will be the shattering of the myth of a free and independent press in Sweden.
and justice (Humain Rights).
Oh ...free press in Sweden. Are you kidding me? SVT, SR, ... charge us the so-called TV license fee like 1000 SEK per year claiming that they need money to operate independently.
It is a plain lie ... they have never been free and soon they will be like Fox News.
