What would Bergman think?

In Be Kind Rewind, a new film starring Jack Black, the zany actor brings a new word to the lexicon of film: to Swede.
According to the film’s website:
Sweding is re-making something from scratch using whatever you can get your hands on.
Hmmm…not sure what to make of that.
For more background, you can also check out this YouTube clip:
The question we have is how Swedes themselves feel about having been made into a verb, and whether or not the act of ‘Sweding’ is at all reflective of Swedes or Swedish culture.

How do you remake something from scratch?

i saw this movie and frankly i thought it was very quirky and enjoyable. If people get offended by that term then they are reading too deeply into things.

clearly remaking something from scratch is a talent borne from years of living in a cold dark northern country. darkness is the mother of invention.

I’m a Swede and while I’m not offended because I don’t take it seriously I wonder why the hell they called it “Sweding”. It would have been a lot more funnier if had some actual real background, if it was something typically Swedish to do, but since there is no real background to it it’s just a little funny, not much. Beside, it’s you American people that make crappy American remakes of everything! That was funnier, because there is an actual background to it, see? Though, you shouldn’t take it too seriously…
