The scene was a real iOpener…

Here, our Twitter followers (Tweeps? Twollowers?) can enjoy even more Swedish news with some of those smaller nuggets making their way to your Twitter feed in 140 characters or less.

Here was our first ever blip, from Thursday July 12th:

• #NEWSBLIP: Östersund man found 6 billion SEK in his bank account on Wednesday: “I almost fainted!” Cash vanished 2 hrs later. Bank baffled.

The idea is also for additional reader interaction so we can what YOU want to read more about.

This Blip from Friday prompted a buzzing Twitter interaction (Twinteraction?) and a flurry of reader photos, resulting in a full story with more information shortly after, including a gallery of photos:

• #NEWSBLIP: An enormous swarm of bees terrorized central Stockholm this afternoon. Who said Friday 13th was nothing to worry about?

The 12,500 tickets went on sale at 9am on Friday, for a concert that will be held at The Globe on April 22nd next year.

Luckily for Swedish “Beliebers”, Justin has announced a second concert in the Swedish capital.

The second concert was announced later in the morning, and also sold out — in 45 mintutes! This concert will be held April 23rd.

For those people who don’t understand what all the fuzz is about Justin Bieber, the 18-year-old heartthrob born in Canada, below is a video of a song he released on May 2nd, called “Boyfriend”.

It has been viewed almost 100 million times.

The clip was produced to coincide with the US Independence Day reception hosted by the US Embassy in Stockholm at the residence of current US ambassador Mark Brzezinski, whose wife Natalia, is also a Chicago native.

Indeed, a scroll through articles about the incident listed on Google News shows that major media outlets the world over caught wind of the story via The Local.

Al Jazeera, The Guardian, The New York Times, National Public Radio, ABC News, The Huffington Post, MSNBC all quote The Local in their reporting about the incident.

Of course, this comes as no surprise to those of us at The Local or our regular readers who are accustomed to reading stories about Sweden on The Local a day or two before they hit the international press.

Gobsmacked

We did have one reader who correctly guessed it, however that was three weeks ago after we slipped a “gobsmacked” in as a red-herring.

So once again, The Local takes home the cake and the scoreboard now reads TL: 5 – Readers: 0

In case you missed them, the articles containing the word in question were:

One of these was an April Fools’ story, too.

According to dictionary.com, gobsmacked is defined as an adjective meaning astounded or astonished, springing from British slang.

According to Tyda.se, gobsmacked can be translated into Swedish with the word “chockad”.
