Two Events to Get You in the Holiday Spirit

Tomorrow there’s two events in NYC to kick-start Christmas.

The first is a very American – or very New York – tradition: Santacon. This holiday marathon of sorts starts at 10AM and involves hundreds, if not thousands, of people dressed up as Santa descending on the city to drink en masse. That’s right, a sea of red suits and ho ho ho-ing in Manhattan. This is a bar hop where jolly is mandatory. Sign up on the Santacon website and you’ll receive a notice of where to meet. Expect to run around a lot as the merry mass moves from bar to bar to spread holiday cheer.

Lucia is a holiday of light, where Swedish girls dress in white, with tinsel or candles in their hair and serve saffron buns (lussebullar) and spiced wine (glogg) while singing Christmas carols. To get the party started, there’ll be an open vodka bar from 10-11PM. The Lucia procession starts at midnight. Expect a sea of blondes munching on gingerbread cookies and dancing to Swedish Top 40 hits (I’m thinking Ace of Base and Europe, but I’ll give you the scoop post party). Tickets: $20 at the door.
