A Party to Kick Off the New Year

Some unforeseen incidents that left my husband bedridden and me with my thumb in a brace put a slow start to the new year (and to my blogging)… Last night, however, I was able to attend a reception that kicked off  2010 in a fancy fashion.

The British Consul-General held a reception at his home  in honor of three recently appointed Officers of the Order of the British Empire: actor Alan Cumming, activist Dominic MacSorley, and the late Paul Nicholls, whose fight for cancer patients came to an end when he lost his own battle to the disease last year, but whose legacy lives on.

Isn’t that just so New York? A Swede at a British party honoring expats  making their mark in the world’s melting pot?

There was a serious undertone to the event, as all three honorees were being recognized for their valiant contribution to charitable causes around the world. But a guest list of bright young stars and activists kept the event lively. Designer Kenneth Cole and Harper’s Bazaar’s Glenda Bailey added glitz to the evening.

After some cocktails and sausage rolls (in true Brit fashion) I feel fully charged to embrace the new year and look forward to the Swedish Chamber of Commerce reception later this week!
