A Spa Retreat in the Rain

Friday, February 26th, 2010

It’s been a dreadful week in New York. Raining cats and dogs with a chance of snow  that adds up to one frigid mess. After an afternoon  of running around to different trade shows, I scurried into the Molton Brown store in Soho.

My co-workers and I had been invited for a private shopping event. There was sparkling wine, oatmeal raisin cookies, free hand scrubs and soothing temple massages. After perusing and testing half the store (and a small purchase of a ginger-something body scrub) I felt rejuvenated enough to brave the storm once more.

I don’t know if there’s free massages every day but the store is lovely and there’s plenty of sampling even during regular hours.

Glamorous Night Out – Part 2

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

After a few champagne cocktails at the Crosby Street Hotel last night, I popped into the Agent Provocateur store on Mercer Street. Kim, the Femme Fatale store manager,  and her team of sex kittens put on a small showcase of Agent Provocateur’s new demi-couture line – lingerie made in the couture tradition and fit to wear on the red carpet. Needless to say, it was exquisite. Callais lace, butter soft Italian leather, and Swarowksi crystals en masse on limited edition pieces that will only be found in 10 stores around the globe.

Step inside a treasure trove at Agent Provocateur. While Agent Provocateur hails from Britain, the luxe Soho store has a distinct New York feel, and with champagne on ice and a sales staff that makes everyone feel like a star, it’s certainly worth a visit when in town.

Glamorous night out – Part 1

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Crosby Meadow SuiteLast night I had the  exquisite pleasure of attending a holiday party at the new “it” place to rest your head in NYC, the Crosby Street Hotel. Located in a brick building on one of the more quiet blocks in Soho, it has that old school industrial feel from the outside. The decor inside – a dash art deco, a bit mod, with a few “flea market finds” thrown in that no one actually seems to find at a real flea market.

In a nod to its British roots – the company also owns numerous London spots like the Soho Hotel – the Crosby offers plenty of spaces to sink into a lunge chair, read a good book, and enjoy their afternoon tea service.

Rooms start around $500 but if you’re hear for the weekend and feel like a splurge, try the $1,850 Meadow Suite with your own NYC rooftop garden.
