The fallout from “ the N-g-r cake” continues, but not as strongly, looks like it’s now subsiding into a whimper…

Two questions:

1. So is the negro-cake of Sweden the new Colin’s Bear? | spaceghetto

2. This  FGM , was it instituted by men or by women?

FGM is a very sensitive subject as you may gather from the discussions that started HERE

All My Trials ….subsiding….

They have run out of ammunition and are breathlessly waiting for the next “event” or incident so that we can all sing this song

You know how sensitive Africans are and can be. We have to do something about this tarnished image of Sweden, coming at the heels of “the slave auction” – which got the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s buddy, the Rev. Jesse Jackson to see red, as if Sweden is the headquarters of the Ku Klux Klan or the equivalent of George Wallace’s Alabama and Mississippi in the 60s….

This is where I first realised the seriousness of the performance event at our museum of modern art, here called the modern museum. Imagine that this turned up in our august Pan-African list serve, the USA-Africa Dialogue series where one of the professors kick-started the rallying cry with this challenge to the Pan African Brethren and Sistren :

“Folks, see this “racist circumcision cake” of African womanhood! “

One of the consequences to a stream of negative or exaggerated reporting – especially about racism and alleged racism is that some of the African gentry probably won’t send their children to Sweden for Higher Education if they are led to believe that Sweden is a cesspool of racism against Black People. But even that won’t stem the flow of asylum seekers to the land of milk and honey – better to suffer social and racial discrimination here than life-threatening tribalism, tribal discrimination and religion-based terrorism or poverty and lack of opportunity back home in darkest Africa – and so would you Mr. Svensson, if the tables were turned and the Swedes became Africans and the Africans were in charge of Sweden.

The Africans were in charge of Sweden” Do I hear a universal cry of “God forbid!”, and not only from the Jante Svenssons? That Heaven could not be so cruel?

Well, here in today’s Sweden we have all kinds of laws against racism, we even have an Equality Ombudsman and laws against Hate Speech and so black or white or red, brown or yellow, why should it matter who’s in charge ? Well, when the White Man was in charge of Nigeria and the Congo it was called colonialism….and although when an interviewer expressed some sympathy for De Klerk,  said that it was so sad that he was the last white man that was ever going to rule South Africa,  no – said de Klerk, since apartheid was finally under arrest and colour was no longer a deciding factor, the return of the white man to the helm of affairs should not be ruled out. The truth is that we are still very far from Steve Biko’s ideal: “We are looking forward to a non-racial, just and egalitarian society in which color, creed and race shall form no point of reference.” (Steve Biko, founder of The Black Consciousness Movement )…we can all keep dreaming and having dreams.

Back to real-ity:

There’s this very important observation at the bottom of this thread where Hyfundan says,

“These insular, conformist, to various degrees ignorant women didn’t know how to act in front of the screaming caricature cake …” and the object the FGM-ed n-g-r cake and the objective ( the limits of freedom of expression in provocative art) in this instance was not a laughing matter …it’s possibly, understandably all part of that approaching cataclysmic event that Brother Farrakhan calls “ the shock of the hour” and that with a sudden confrontation with the wholly unexpected and bizarre, their reaction, laughter could have been part of hysteria – an hysteric reaction, due to the stressfulness of the situation….and since the theme was “ Provocative art and freedom of expression”, Makode Linde the most talked about artist in Sweden today ( overnight fame) must have thought, “ Limits? I’m gonna shock ya!”and as you have all noticed he has succeeded beyond even his wildest imagination.

But I don’t think that their laughter was a result of stress or confusion or to the women assembled round the cake-cutter not knowing how to react – it’s more likely that the cheers, the hand-clapping, the laughing and the general merriment must have been the formal – even ceremonial reaction to the cutting of the cake —- any cake, and not to the cutting off of their cake-sister’s clitoris or her / Makode’s fake screaming…..

A few relevant terms that are relevant to the demise of FGM:

social engineering

cultural engineering

raising awareness

Last night one of my mentors( African-American) gave me the impression that if “ Provocative art and freedom of expression” was the theme of the event at the Modern Museum, then our Lena should have refused to cut the cake…..should have gone up to it and declared that this exhibit was the very limit and she was going to go no further with the cutting……

Fela Kuti – Lady

Still, it’s very much of a man’s world. Life goes on, with war and rumours of war. Heard on BBC news last night, “ We are not going to negotiate. The only talk we are going to talk is through the gun!”

None of the above is funny. How about this :

It’s a woman’s thing. Only a woman’s thing? A woman thing? That’s why both men and wo-men are so incensed about it. The fallout has been immense much more immense than the fallout from Mayor Reepalu’s alleged anti-Semitism ( and only he knows what is in his heart, and the Bible says that from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaketh….

Now it’s Sweden’s beautiful minister of culture that’s experiencing some bad weather and I’m 100% on her side.

THE GOOD NEWS

Makode also speaks here and is presented here

Depending on which side you’re on, here’s a good introduction to the palaver : “Let them eat cake”

It’s that or On how the Internet tricked us with a racist cake

I wonder what SIZZLA would have to say about it all…

What would Gunnar Ekelöf have said?

What does enfant terrible Torbjörn Tännsjö have to say ?

Indeed, the local and international fallout has been immense, even monumental letters like this one

An Open Letter from African women to the Minister of Culture: The Venus Hottentot Cake

Afro-Swedes demand Minister’s resignation

Mood I’m in: Ama feeling a little choleric this afternoon due to a two days long lumbago which is still keeping me a little irritable, not to mention the pain, sitting in front of this computer. So I*ll try to make it short. The image of Sweden has been desecrated and Heaven forbid that I should just layabout and be silent. Giving Sweden a bad name… I’m not going to stand for it!  Since I am a Swedish citizen have lived here most of my life and I’m at home with the language, culture and mores, here’s a fair attempt to take a closer look and hopefully we will arrive together at a more correct picture of where we are and where it’s at.

Black man speaking here and he’s telling you this: He’s never going to apologise for being himself.

If you think that he’s ever going to apologise, you can forget it and go back to sleep.

He has a right to shout since he’s living life according to the golden rule and in song it sounds like this

So, I’m afraid that you’ll just have to put up with the pre-amble to the holy ramble and before we get to all the talk that rimes with holy Söderblom, holy Nelson Mandela and holy Desmond Tutu, let’s all agree that “When something not right it’s wrong”

Suggestively speaking, the nearest you can come to that headline ( The Black Cake and the White Lady) is the title of Mingus’ classic cut The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

Sometimes if you’re black and blue it’s alright, but if you’re “White” and think it’s not alright, you don’t want to hear too much negative talk about racism being the status quo in your own country, as if you have to live your God-given life as a second class citizen in your own God-given country. Unless you want to believe that Sweden does not belong to God.

The song is always

” Black and white

Black and Night

it’s babies making babies

To begin with I’d like to say I’m happy that there’s an African community in Sweden and that that community is alive, sensitive (some would say too sensitive) and responsive – as per Hillel the Elder’s dictum “ If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?”

In this regard I should like to exonerate the human being ( for me a brother) called Momodou Jallow, who was lastly a victim of some kids who know no better and now , more recently he has emerged again as some kind of leader or at least spokesman of the African collective (our local Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson if you will) – and you must know that every Black community has it’s Al & Jerry – and some in Sweden would say “Heaven help us all” if we had a Louis Farrakhan or Khalid Muhammad type over here! Now, since we are talking about Art vs. FGM others of us remember these words of Malcolm : ”Our religion teaches us to be intelligent. Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery. That’s a good religion.”

Somehow, I seem to remember the quote as going “ Our religion teaches us to be intelligent. Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on your woman, send him to the cemetery. That’s a good religion.”

Yes, I exonerate Momdou Jallow , although I do not agree with him – not at all about what he says in this his article Sweden: the country where racism is just a joke ….but that’s the way that he sees it and true to what he see he has cared enough and been brave enough to speak out – even though if on this occasion it’s the old story of

“and all he believes are his eyes

and his eyes are just telling lies.”

You ask me “ What is racism ?”

I tell you “ When the White man or the jealous White woman starts performing FGM operations on the Black Woman, that’s racism.”

But Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth only did it symbolically – and as we all know, for another reason….

The question being asked is Did Sweden’s Racist Cake-Cutting Scandal Accomplish Anything?

I should like to make it clear once more that I am on the side of Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, and that it’s perfectly ABSURD to demand her resignation. I wish that I could find a stronger word than absurd.

And I’m also on the side of the much misunderstood Afro-Viking artist Makode Linde. I know the artist’s father, he’s a friend from the early 70s; he also comes from non-racist stock – and the thing about Makode the son, is that when you see him or a picture of him and you’ve seen the father – the son is the spitting image of the father (just like Jesus said of his) – a chip off the old block….

Now if the artist had been “ White” ?

Ay, caramba !

The charge of racism would have been more explicit and there would have been talk not only about duplicity but that the Whitey & Whitey had got together and had connived to insult the Black Nation. And if his racial identity had been kept secret and it had only been been revealed later on that the artist was a Muzungu, a toubab, an Obronie, an Oyibo, an oporto ( some of the names for “the White man” in some of the African languages) then the fallout would have been even more immense, perhaps from across the Atlantic, Jesse J and Louis F would have weighed in HEAVILY

So let’s get this clear : although some people think it’s a stereotypical image of their mother/ lover/sister/ daughter/ wife/ child/ and ( just think of those who have undergone an FGM operation – and such an operation cannot be reversed we must understand that it was not just Makode’s stereotypical cake or a caricature cake (and the culture Minister’s cutting of the cake….(perhaps Makode could have made it a wedding cake , with the icing where the red lips used to be….?)

Makode speaks : From The Rush To Judgment Files: Meet The Black Artist Who Made The So-Called “Nigger Cake”

In case you have not clicked on any of the links, it’s back to the most preliminary fact that nearly all of the hysterical Swedish media coverage and the resultant discussions have omitted:

There were other cakes lined up, cakes made by other artists and the theme there at the Modern Museum was The limits of freedom of expression in provocative art.

So there they were, all lined up, other artistic expressions made of cake and our minister of culture in due course arrived at Makode’s exhibit and performed the operation…..

Bearing in mind the theme there at the Modern Museum, ( Provocative art and freedom of expression) was Sweden’s minister of culture supposed to arrive at the exhibition cut all the other ribbons and cakes, what have you, finally arrive at Makode’s excellent piece of provocation and refuse to do the most unkindest cut of all , because the cake was black?

Controversial Afro-Swedish Artist Speaks, “It’s a Disturbing Picture, it’s also a disturbing subject

We are living in thes interesting times. this fallout itself  is of historic importance in our cultural history. We haven’t got to the main subject yet the painful subject of FGM but as the pain in my lower back is getting a little unbearable just now, I’ll try to lay me down for a while and then go out for a little walk and maybe add a little to all of the above. Innocence

I should like to amend my earlier “words” in an earlier posting,

in which I said that “it’s speculated that if Breivik had been African he would have been accorded another type of reception, he would have appeared handcuffed and in chains in that court…..and there he was in court, pouring himself a glass of sherry and saying that his only regret is that he had not killed more people.”

We’ve all seen all manner of African war criminals some at the ICC at the Hague, wearing ties and three piece suits, sipping from a glass to soak their parched throats as they tried to forget or to recall with greater precision…

We’ve even seen other war criminals shaking hands and having lunch with first world dignitaries….so why shouldn’t Breivik have his day in court and sip sherry if he wants?

Oslo .A far cry from the drama of the Chicago Conspiracy Trial one of whose defendants David T. Dellinger later came out with the book Revolutionary nonviolence

( Steve Biko’s trial is also available verbatim in “The Testimony of Steve Biko“ and it is a record of his ideology Black Consciousness that was put on trial, defended and explained by Steve, in very human terms, during that trial )

We are looking forward to a nonracial, just and egalitarian society in which colour, creed and race shall form no point of reference” ( Steve Biko)

It’s the kind of statement that would strike Breivik down with apoplexy…

My amendment is really the result of reading this morning’s DN coverage of yesterday’s proceeding at the Breivik trial and especially after reading Hanne Kjöller’s editorial, “Rättspsykiatrin inför rätta” (Forensic psychiatry in court/on trial.) Please bear with this serving of Ma Google’s automated translation

Latest : Anders Breivik: I wanted to capture and behead Norway’s ex-prime minister during Utoya island attack

Breivik ‘hoped to kill hundreds’

And the rest of the world should not forget that we’re talking about a trial at a Norwegian Court of Law. That being the case the world and Norway expect nothing less than that justice be done. And for some, justice is nothing less than the death penalty – although Danny Glover probably wouldn’t agree with that. Fortunately Osama has gone ahead.

Norway is one of the world’s most advanced countries and it is to Oslo that we tune in every year to hear the winner of the Nobel Prize for Peace announced – you do remember The Nobel Peace Prize 1993 ?

This tragic character Breivik must at least be feeling a little stressed (don’t know what kind of tranquillizers he’s on) but on his first morning in court he was looking fresh, like Apollo – not as if any pangs of conscience had troubled him as the day of the trail approached. On morning one there were no bags under his eyes, in fact he looked like he had just returned fresh from a holiday in Barbados…..pale, yes, he is a pale-face, bleak? A natural colour came to his cheek when he cried. Once.

With the court as a platform he is playing himself (that’s his role) putting on a show, acting out his theatrical illusions about the grandeur of his purpose and this chilling piece of reality is getting so much sympathy and understanding from the media pundits it would seem that his sanity/ mental status is about to absolve him from from any human responsibility since he’s going for crazy.

Oslo

Some of the experts/ authorities disagree on whether he is what is normally called ” insane” or not….

Anyway, this is one case in which with the unedited self-confessions of the man in the dock & under oath, whether he understood the magnitude of his crimes or not and whether he knew or did not know what he was doing, the normal verdict would be,“Guilty of mass murder” and since Norway does not have the death penalty – not even for spying – life imprisonment and other compassionate measures he might benefit from is also a foregone conclusion.

Should like to add that in the ’70s, Norway ( “Normannen”) had the best schools in psychology and psychiatry in all of Scandinavia….

Everywhere you go it’s the talk of the town about the special cutting of the cake in Sweden…

It has been reported here locally and it’s a top item in World News.

It’s also a popular item on international television, I just saw Lena the Hon. Swedish Minister (and blonde too) being featured on CNN…

OK, if there’s nothing to repent about and you’re not repentant and just want to dismiss it with a wave of your pretty hand as just some of the the expected ripples from the Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth effect, you are free to do so or wish that it had been a white cake/ girl instead, modelled on Barbie and with some icing to contrast with her colour, just for extra aesthetic effect…”a rose by any colour would smell as sweet”…

Sweden’s art minister takes heat over ‘racistcakeCNN.com

You know what? She’s apologised at the same time the spectacle has once again raised awareness about the so called FGM

I wonder what that artsy-fartsy Lars Vilks thinks about all this?

Of course, the irate anti-racists (the insulted, the stigmatised and the once more antagonised) will be protesting the sad occurrence of this cake-cutting/ the colour and the nature of the human caricature of a piece of cake that was made and then publicly cut)and will be referring to it, many a time in the future – almost like the ire that Nyamko Sabuni generated with her programme of compulsory verification….

You can have your cake and eat it too

In that grotesque caricature cutting of the black woman made of cake, (such red lips!) Lena Adelsoh must have been a pretty brave lady when she plunged her knife into the cake. Some of the anti- and the not so anti racists opine that when she did so, when she used the knife her heart was as cold as Swedish Steel and her face was smiling and showed no evil….

The discussion continues here in our Pan-African Forum and you are welcome to join in : USA Africa Dialogue Series – FW: Swedish ‘Racist Circumcision’ Cake

In the beginning was the Swedish Spring and the Löfven effect (continued)

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Ah yes,  Swedish Social Democracy’s beloved “Löfven effect”

In the beginning was the Swedish Spring and the Löfven effect…

As for the Alliance, Stefan Löfven is beginning to be looked upon with some respect as the big bad wolf and still growing in the opinion polls.

Heaven help us all with the economy…!

There’s an interesting reportage in today’s Dagens Nyheter and no scarcity of news about Breivik in Court, Day 1

Day 2 :Anders Behring Breivik claims he was ‘defending his country’

This one man army killed for his cause and when he shed tears, he was not play-acting….

I suppose that he must have lived a very isolated existence one of solitude – alienated – or immersed in a group of his like-minded people – otherwise his world view would have been challenged – certainly influenced….

Temporarily leaving that world and today for other passing words:

It would be a few more years before I reached Sunland. I stared around the room, looked over towards the black window and saw the twilight was coming. Ice was stacked up,thick, all along the fire escape rail. I stared down into the alleyway and then up to the rooftops from tower to tower. Snow was beginning to fall again, covered the cement covered earth. If I was beginning any new kind of life to live, it really didn’t seem that way.. It’s not as if I had turned in any old one to live it. If anything, I wanted to understand these things and then to be free of them: I needed to learn how to telescope things, ideas. Things were too big to see all at once, like all the books in the library – everything laying around on all the tables. You might be able to put it all into one paragraph or into one verse of a song if you could get it right.” (Page 61, Bob Dylan’s Chronicles)

And from that, back to topical reality: & Scandinavia’s World News

Is there a causal relationship between the Breivik effect and Swedish politics ? You may well ask….

If anything, some extremist reactions (med avsky) and it is to be expected that many of the Swedish people who were otherwise inclined have recoiled from Z and deserted some of the so called extreme-right and their extreme ideas. Since with the tempo of modern life it’s never a dull moment and there should never be a vacuum there ( otherwise Satan will take over and fill it ) – so, Mr,  Mrs,  & Miss Never-a-Vacuum are now in transition to a new comfort zone, and until this Breivik effect recedes, they will continue to gravitate towards other political parties. In some cases of extreme reaction ( the Stockholm syndrome) it has been known for some people to abscond from the left and seek asylum with the Moderate party, not too often but there are one or two such cases – right now can only think of David Horowitz…..and I’m sure that most of what Breivik said about Muslims must have also caused Robert Spencer some distress

In the beginning was the Swedish Spring and the Löfven effect…

It’s being measured and being felt they say mostly by him laying low : the Löfven effect

I think that the boost is mostly because of his credibility…. his “the human touch”

Guest chronicle: The Social Democrats on the rise again

much more about that later…..

Controversial:

Also being measured and being felt, not only from the inhabitants of the chamber of horrors, but conjuring up ( in their imagination ) a worst case scenario, it’s speculated that if Breivik had been African he would have been accorded another type of reception, he would have appeared handcuffed and in chains in that court… but lo ! – there he was, smiling, without regret and without remorse and with all the world’s attention on him – some allege, dressed as the apocalyptic front-rider of the Gestapo, that he even saluted the Hitler salute, and there he was in court, pouring himself a glass of sherry and saying that his only regret is that he had not killed more people.

Tweedledum and Tweedledee

Friday, April 13th, 2012

There’s been this unfortunate comparison between Malmö’s embattled Mayor Reepalu and the former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone who was succeeded by Boris Johnson who is more of a Swedish type mayor – and not just because of a decent shock of blonde hair on his head.

What do I mean by “Swedish type mayor”, when there are and have been so many different types of people who have been mayor of Stockholm? Perhaps I had better say “a conscientious Swedish type person” in a mayoral position, and a conscientious Swedish type person is one who is anti-racist and has sympathy for persecuted minorities such as gay people – and e.g. Black People whose only fault is that they happen to be born that way (black)…

The comparison (Boris Johnson a more Swedish type) is based on this singularly brave action known as “civil courage” – not that Boris Johnson needed a court order – as here in Sweden where anti-gay flyers have been judged to be illegal.

In celebrating diversity he (Boris Johnson) just went ahead and pulled down anti-gay adverts from the bus campaign (a Christian crusader campaign aimed at putting up adverts inviting gay people to reparative therapy in order to “develop their heterosexual potential”…

Can’t help but wonder what the official reaction would be should the same campaign be attempted here in Stockholm!

I remember, it was sometime in the 70s when a politician perhaps in some unguarded moment made the mistake of saying that homosexuality was a disease/sickness as a result of which a considerable number of people thus diagnosed didn’t go to work the morning after that statement was made, reported themselves ill to the Health Insurance – as a protest action against homosexuality being classified as an illness

Boris Johnson of London is the equivalent of Sten Nordin of Stockholm. (The very title “His Worship the Lord Mayor of London” has more of a ceremonial aura than his equivalent in a more practical Sweden where technically speaking his title is not that of mayor although the functions are more or less the same, here he is called “Stockholm’s Commissioner of Finance” and he presides over the Municipal Council….

So, in the battle against Ken Livingstone which I mostly followed in The Jewish Chronicle Boris Johnson’s election manifesto motto was “Making London’s Mayor Accountable”.

Cannot imagine Ilmar Reepalu who has been Malmö’s Commissioner of Finance since 1994, running a similar campaign based on “ Making Malmö’s Strong Man Accountable” but that could well be the platform for the one who will challenge Reepalu : “Making Malmö’s Mayor Accountable”…

One would have thought that all Mayor Reepalu had to do was to apologise or express some regret as KL does here but surprisingly, “the strong man of Malmö” has not done so….

Quite unconnected:

( Reggae star Sizzla to get Tel Aviv a-sizzling in April!

I understand that what happened in Sweden with SIZZLA is that a large portion of the gay community threatened to boycott both Sizzla’s concert and any other concerts that would be billed for that venue…..)

God Is Love “

Website for this image

As someone so succintly put it, “the problem is that Ilmar Reepalu cannot (seems incapable/unable to) separate the Jewish Community of Malmö from what is happening in Israel.” He cannot distinguish or differentiate between his jurisdiction the South of Sweden and Israel which is not within his jurisdiction , since he’s only the Mayor of Malmö, Sweden. In other words that the Jews of Malmö are to be held  responsible  and found guilty as charged by the Muslim radicals  and some of the criminals in his jurisdiction of Malmö for whatever happens in Israel, and  that in humility they (the Jews of Malmö) should accept whatever punishments are inflicted on them by the anti-Semites and anti -Zionists among the citizens of Malmö who are under Mayor Reepalu’s protection.  The grim reality is that many of Malmö’s Jews have fled the city of Malmö.

By now Reepalu knows that he is not going to win many votes from his foes and that there are many more Muslims than Jews  who would vote for him in Malmö, so of course he would prefer to increase the support he gets from the followers of Prophet Jesus. And that’s only half of the story. He has also made embarassing accusations which, for the time being, is not going to be discussed here.

Once more, His Worship The Lord Mayor of Malmö :

Reepalu in the balance – could be given the chance to prove his mettle

You’d think that he would be more circumspect. It’s surprising that a seasoned politician like the distinguished Mayor of Malmö who these last umpteen years running has been practising the tricks of the trade and yet could still make such elementary mistakes in handling public relations in his beleaguered outlaw city. OK, politicians are also human – true, whilst some others can be local or global anti-Semites. The most human ones among the politicians – since they are human, can also have their off days when from the fullness of the heart the tricky menopausal mind thru mouth can make a couple of slips of the tongue, especially when he voices very personal opinions in the name of his social democratic party, instead of speaking very personally in his own name, as private citizen REEPALU

I’ve just heard Mona Sahlin make that distinction in the first five minutes of this evening’s TV2 programme Min Sanning ( My Truth) :Mona Sahlin.

She says that in speaking nowadays, she has had to change from her former identity – from having to speak as Party Leader of a party which espouses solid Social Democratic values – to ( what a relief) being now at liberty ( freedom of speech) to be able to speak very very personally, as private citizen Mona Sahlin
