A bouquet of peonies is my Midsummer dream, Mercedes. What a lovely image.

One of the many things that surprised me about Sweden is that the peony which happens to be my favorite flower is as pervasive there as the rose is elsewhere. Imagine that... I would love to receive a bouquet of peonies... do you have any idea how much that would cost in a Mediterranean country! Practically undo -arrayedable

I'm afraid I'm not a political creature, Romeo, and this is not a political blog. My reflection was motivated by my experience of misjudging people and particularly places based on stereotypes. Of course there is some protective value in your scenario (where did the guilt come from?) but it is a heavy load to carry around with you all of the time.

Then again, think of it from an evolution standpoint. Political Correctness, while seemingly a civilized gesture, would have seen us lose WWI and WWII miserably. We derived at this point, NOT by being politically correct.. but by creating biases which steer us to that which we perceive is safe and good. Ask yourself Julie, and answer HONESTLY, would you not cross a Miami, Houston or New Orleans street if you noticed a gaggle of five black men walking in your direction on the same side of the road?? I would like to think that "profiling" is more about self-preservation than racism or discrimination.

As for me, I will hold onto my self-preservation, Political correctness be damned. I will keep my compartmentalized thinking and I will not feel guilt if anyone is offended by my thinking.
