I get by with a little help from my friends

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

We found out during the night that Jekku would be a really good guard dog when Joel’s flat mate came home from a Fibes, Oh Fibes! concert. Imagine how it would be to wake up in the middle of the night by a dog that’s barking and crying. Well well.

Joel and me will take out him rather soon and then later in the afternoon I’ll meet two of my best friends, Linn and Mikaela. Linn turned 19 yesterday so we’ll celebrate her somehow today. Hopefully we also have time for planning for next summer; the plan is to island hopping in Greece. I’m so excited to go to travel with them. We’ve known eachother for three years (we met in year one at high school) so I’m sure we have the time of our lives! :D

Is it okay to have pets in a student’s apartment?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

During the months of my relationship I’ve also fallen inlove with my boyfriend’s family dog Jekku. Jekku is a nova scotia duck tolling retriver and has a beautiful fox coloured fur, along with that and with his outstanding personality he has gotten a special place in my heart.

I convinced my boyfriend to grab Jekku and take him over to his apartment, as I’ve been missing histhe dog’s company since he moved away from home.  It’s pleasant to have a dog here, becomes a bit more cosier. As my boyfriend lives in the Gärdet area in Stockholm we have a walking distance to a large field, so I think we’ll take him for a walk there tomorrow. :) But… You should be able to have pets in a  students’ apartment, right?

But, now we’re going to watch Grey’s Anatomy, sleep tight :) .

Saturday!

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Oh, feels so nice that it’s finally weekend and that I could sit in the green sofa (that you seem to disgust haha) and just typing on the computer. The sky is blue (!) today, hope that weather will stay the entire day. My boyfriend is away playing tennis at the moment.

Today I’ll meet a friend of mine for a ‘fika’ (there’s no translation in English for that word :/) and then I’ll go with my boyfriend’s family to their friends event. The weekend had a good start yesterday when I hung out with some friends at a shabby bar, and as it was Friday before pay check it was crowded (as people don’t afford to go to fancy bars or clubs). First and last time I queued for that bar. However, the place is not what’s most important, it’s the company! I hadn’t seen them for a long time so it’s always nice to catch up!

Have a nice Saturday people :) have to jump into the shower so I don’t get late for my date with my friend. ;)

P.S Did you notice that it was the 20th birthday of the Children’s Convention yesterday? 20 years has passed and still US and Somalia still hasn’t ratified it and Sweden breaks seven of the ~20 terms. Apparentley all children here are not equal. I really hope that Sweden improves, otherwise I would be ashamed.

I’ve become a home styling maniac!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

My boyfriend recently moved into his first apartment and it has really awoken my desire to also move away from home. Not surprisingly, most advices of how he should style the place has come from me. I think he likes it though and I try to remember that it’s his place and not mine. :) But, don’t you agree with me that it’s so fun to shop for furnitures, decorations and other home stuff? So today when I found the cutest couch ever I decided that I would give it to my boyfriend as a Christmas gift. It won’t be a secret though (unfortunately…), I was so excited about it so I had to tell him. So it will be placed in his apartment in the coming days. :D

Here’s the sofa. Nice, huh? :) The shade of green is a bit darker in reality, the camera of my mobile phone isn’t the best.

Monday and work

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Monday and start of a new week, mine could have started a lot better than it did. I overslept which meant that I had to hurry in order to come in time for work. Oh, I really hate being late. If you’re not familiar with the November weather of Stockholm, then  perhaps you would be surprised about how grey and dull everything seem to be. Today’s weather consisted of rain, greyness and coldness. No wonder why so many Swedes are depressed during this time of year…

I guess I’m not the only one that begins to plan my weekend on a Monday, hehe. I had a good one even though I didn’t do that much. I went to Eskilstuna (about an hour from Stockholm) with Amnesty for work at Friday so when I came home I only desired for a sofa night! The rest of the weekend was not filled up with tons of plans either, went to IKEA, met my best friend and I also went to the Modern Museum to see the Dalí Dalí demonstration.

So, Monday – back to business and start of a working week. But, the next destination for me tonight would be the bed!

Why are people so narrow-minded?

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Have you seen the film Milk, of which story that concerns the gay activist Harvey Milk? If you have, then you must agree with me that it’s a movie that everyone should see, either if you’re pro-homosexuals or homophobic (though I find it very hard to understand why someone dislike HBT-people), as you definitely learn a lot about people and how important human rights are. Today a long with my co-workers from Amnesty I got the opportunity to watch it the second time and we were so surprised over how narrow-minded people in our age are. The majority of us from Amnesty is 19 and in the salon there were students that were about 16-24 years old. People were interrupting by speaking to each other during the film, shouting when two men kissed and when applauding when the central figure was shot dead.

Milk is in my opinion one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen and I think that Sean Penn did an extraordinary achievement when he acted as Harvey Milk. I’ve gotten moved and touched by his effort and both times I’ve been speechless on how it’s possible that people even can have so much disgust for people that are slightly different than themselves. I’ve always thought that people are born equally and should deserve full human rights – no matter what. I was surprised to find out that people still, even in my age, are so prejudicial about HBT-people and that so many are insecure with that subject. Fear has given birth to many disasters like the Holocaust, gay movement, the Rwanda genocide and so many other events. Wouldn’t you agree with me that it’s time to treat people as people instead of putting labels and categorize people?

Home from work

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

I went home from work yesterday as I didn’t feel alright, felt like I had a fever and that my body was too heavy to move. I’m better today and though I didn’t have a fever I decided that it was better to stay at home. So now I’m thinking about why there aren’t any better shows broadcasting during daytime. Not that the parliament debates are that boring to watch.

When you’re home from work, is it meant that you should relax and in other words not lift a finger, or should you use the free time and do things that you never seem to have time for? As I’m not deadly ill I should be able to search for a new job (it’s only a seasonal work), email UCAS about uni and read, read, read (there’s so many books that I haven’t read yet). Though perhaps I’m too lazy to do all these things, I might email UCAS and apply for a job, ’cause that’s the most important, right?  I’m not used to have so much time over really, always have something to do that occupies my time. Though, now I feel that I really need to rest and not think of everything I need to do. I’ll do it later, like tonight!

I’m back!

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Oops. More than a month has passed since I gave an update about my life! Shame on me. But, everything’s fine with me and the job is good most of the time. Except from the cold, I’m sure it’s hard for you to understand how it is to work outside when it’s freezing cold – meanwhile as people are not the kindest as they could be all the time.

Further on, I’ll try to update more and post more pictures haha. :)

Today when I worked outside the Stockholm School of Economics, where my boyfriend attends year 2, I forced him to go and take down a White Lies poster for me! British WL is one of my favourite music band and I’ve seen them twice, once at Hultsfred festival but also when they were the supporting act for Coldplay in Stockholm this year. And I’ll see them once again this week when they’re coming to Stockholm. :D They play at Berns this coming Wednesday and there could be tickets left. :) If you are fond of bands like Joy Division or Glasvegas I’m sure that you would like WL too.

Well well, I do have to give up the computer to someone else now. Have a nice evening!
