Away for a ski trip in Åre

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Sorry for that I haven’t written for a while now, I’ve just had too much to think about and needed to focus on some specific things in my life. Today was my first day of my two weeks vacation, I felt that my body was so tired and needed some time off. Right now I’m up in Åre, situated in the north of Sweden, for a short ski trip with my family. I’m really exited to ski, haven’t done that for years. I’m slightly disappointed though; thought that there would be more of  a ’winter wonderland’ up here.

Those of you that live or have lived in bigger cities probably can recognize with that sometimes the best treat is to get away from town for a couple of days. Just to clear your mind and drop those everyday problems that often seems to occupie your head. You cannot control what’s going on at home anyway. So these couple of days I’ll focus on having a great time skiing and all those things that comes along. My friend is also in Åre this weekend so I’ll defintely meet him up for an after ski! :)

Masquerade & Carmen

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

The Local’s website has been messing with me, telling me that I’m offline when I’m not. Well well. I had the best weekend, even though that the situation with my stomach is the same. I also forgot to take the Omeprazol or whatever it’s called yesterday so it might be worse. However, I’ve laughed a lot this weekend. On Friday my friends and I went to a masquerade, usually I love to dress up but this time I settled with a fancy masque and a LBD. I was quite pleased with the result but I think some people thought I was dressed as Lady GaGa! My friends were dressed as David Bowie’s alter ego Ziggy Stardust, ’space princess’ and Alice in the wonderland.

On Saturday I went to the Amnesty academy at Sensus having a course about Amnesty’s Dignity campaign which lasted the whole day, thereafter some of my colleagues and I went to the pub Carmen. Carmen is absolutely not a fancy bar, it’s one of those ‘cheap’ and unpretenious bars, but it’s a perfect place when you want to take a glass and talk without getting disturbed by loud music. How many places are there that doesn’t play any music at all? I must say that I’m so happy that I’m able to have such a relaxed relationship to those that I work with. They’re amazing and I’d hate to work with people that I couldn’t stand with as the colleagues are such a huge part to the job.

Anyways, I hope that my best friend hasn’t fallen asleep by her study books so that she can meet me for a ‘fika’ later tonight. Why isn’t there a translation in English for that word?

I’m on pause mode

Friday, March 5th, 2010

I’m stuck in a bad cicle of getting sick all the time, I think I’ve been ill regulary since New Years. I’ve caught gastric catarrh this time so I’m stuck at home. It’s really annoying to be 50% well instead of 100%. I get stressed by the fact that I’m sick and then it all starts again, another cold, a bit of fever and so it goes.

I feel that there’s so much ahead of me and I’m stuck at one place. There will be some amazing trips this summer that I’ll enjoy. First a week in Assisi in Italy for the third time and right after that: two weeks in Greece with two of my best friends. I got an advertisment this morning that featured some of the Greek Islands, pictures of the clear blue sea, white buildings and white beaches made me day dream. And then, after the summer I’m moving to Cardiff and start my studies.

When I look out of my window in Stockholm I see a clear blue sky and a shining sun, but there’s a massive of snow as well. This makes all those things that I long for seem so far away. There’s only three months left to the summer, but it rather feels like ages. And like a life time left until I move abroad. But I’m sure that once all the snow has melted, then the time will fly away. Right now though it feels like everything has taken a pause.

People shine for real when it’s summer or spring in Sweden.

"The ice dripped in the winter sun. It was the first day when the light had been intense enough to cause dripping in the sunlight. To hear it was an extraordinary wakeup call.
