Style in Sweden

Comments on fashion and aesthetics

It’s getting dark in Sweden. Black is back.

I love black because it gives clothes an elegant, cool, sexy and timeless touch. Black is the basic colour of most outfits that I combine. Therefore I’m really looking forward to this year’s autumn fashion. According to the latest ELLE, black is back this season.

The magazine also says that leather and glitter fabrics combined with super high heels are a must-have this autumn.

In other words, 80s galore! The only thing, which is missing is the poodle perm that almost every woman and some men wore during that time (at least in Germany). But it is maybe best to just keep some trends in memory and not repeat everything.

There is no question that leather looks very chic but I generally don’t wear fabrics made from animals since I am a vegetarian. I don’t eat meat so I don’t wear it! Fake leather is unfortunately not an opportunity for me because I find it looks cheap and it is very uncomfortable.

Anyway, black is beautiful! Here is a selection of some clothes that I find good-looking or interesting…plus my new wonderful black boots from DinSko. I think they are a perfect example for this season’s fashion as they look chic and at the same time cool and edgy. And they are black, of course!

The jacket is so cool! It reminds me of the latest Marc Jacobs collection.

The movie about Coco Chanel must have influenced this season's fashion. Everything looks so Chanel!

The dresses are lovely, especially the first one is something extra!

But regarding color black… you are lucky, Mareike. If you love black, you have certainly ended up in just the right country.

I have been less lucky. For me, black is an accent color, not the basis of my wardrobe. I find Sweden to be a difficult country to shop clothes, shoes and accessories in.

I wrote about it some time ago in my blog:

Well if you don’t like black Sweden might not be the best place for shopping. Btw, cool blog entries! Which colours do you like?

Thank you, Mareike, I am glad you liked my blog! Little venting goes a long way to preserve one’s natural cheerful attitude :-)

Luckily I have relatives in Germany and in Poland. When visiting Hamburg or Warsaw, I go a round through the department stores and usually easily find the items I could not locate in Sweden… To be fair, there are a number of smaller Swedish shops that have better variety of colors. One just needs to know where to look.

What colors I like? “Broken” greens, dark reds, “broken” dark blues like navy or petrol, plum, natural creamy whites…
