Jimmy Choo for H&M. Sandals in winter?

hmscreen 451

Jimmy Choo launches a collection for H&M on November 14 including mostly shoes and accessories. The pieces embody really everything that you can associate with the 80s: leather, glitter, animal prints, fur and heavy jewellery. With the mix of rhinestones and studs the collection is very chic and glamorous but at the same time edgy and cool. Perfect for a night out on the town!

Jimmy Choo’s collection will just be sold in certain H&M stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Uppsala and on the internet. There will even be a queue system out of the shops because of the great popularity of Jimmy Choo (can it be more Swedish?). In other words, get up early if you want to have a pair of real Jimmy Choo shoes or one of the fantastic clutches.

The collection also includes men’s wear. However, apart from the biker boots I think the pieces are not very exciting. The design is very classic (I think almost too classic for H&M) and the colours range is very dark and simple including mostly black and brown.

However, I like Jimmy Choo’s collection. There is just one thing that really confuses me. Why does it include so many sandals and ballerina flats when the winter is coming and it’s getting colder every day? Are Swedish girls somehow resistant towards cold weather or am I such a wimp?! Actually I often think about that when I am at nightclubs during winter. I always have like ten layers of clothes on me plus warm boots and many Swedish girls wear sandals and short dresses.

How do they do that? Do they secretly change their clothes in the restroom or do they just don’t care? I’ve always wanted to ask some of them but I have changed my mind every time because I don’t want to sound like a 40-year old mother who doesn’t understand young people anymore.

Anyway, if you are not cold in sandals when it’s freezing outside and if you want to have shoes or accessories in the style of 80s you shouldn’t miss the great queue party out of H&M this month.

Weird, I thought that was a typically British thing. I think you’re right though as young girls seem to wear ballerina shoes in the snow these days. When I was young we wore winter coats and all the trimmings and then paid for the cloakroom.

Thanks Luca. I’m not that old!

I thought Jimmy Choo was a man but the designers are women and took his name. I’m sure I saw it on Oprah…

Thank you for the correction. The president of Jimmy Choo is Tamara Mellon today. The original Choo and Mellon split. Today there’s Jimmy Choo and Jimmy Choo Couture. Sorry for the mistake!

If you knew anything about fashion then you would know that shops introduce the spring collection at this time of year.

I don’t think that you find spring fashion in shops now right before the winter. Sure, next year’s spring fashion was displayed on the runways like two months ago but I think shops usually introduce it next month. By the way, the collection also includes leather, which is not a typical spring fabric.

Most women do dress up for a night out. Most usually get a taxi or train to close to the club.

Personally I am always in winter clothes and never wear skirts as I hate.

I don’t see the problem with any women dressing up. It is a part of life.

I would only have a problem with it, if they were going for a walk in the mountains or similar.

Different clothing has a time and place.

    @ Andrea:
Thanks for your comment. Of course women dress up. I do that, too! I wear for instance mostly skirts or dresses at nightclubs. But if I wear a skirt at a nightclub in winter I combine it with warm tights and boots and not summer sandals. Other girls wear sandals at nightclubs in winter and I’m wondering how they can stannd it when it’ so cold outside.

To set the record straight, the original Jimmy Choo hasn’t been associated with Jimmy Choo Ltd since 2001. This collection was designed by Jimmy Choo president (and co-founder) Tamara Mellon.

As for the collection itself, I believe there are some excellent pieces—definitely spot-on with the black, edgy 80’s revival going on at the moment. I plan on picking up the sparkly brogues and a couple of the clothing pieces.

In regards to sandals and ballerina flats being launched in winter, you have to remember H&M and Jimmy Choo are global brands—thus they are marketing to more fashionistas than just the small population of Sweden. Many parts of the world do not experience the harsh winters that Sweden has, so wearing sandals isn’t as much of a problem in the winter.

I’m sure the marketing team behind Jimmy Choo is more concerned getting their sexy sandals photographed on starlets in Los Angeles—where weather isn’t an issue, as opposed to faux-lebrity bloggers parading around Stureplan in cold and dreary Stockholm.

P.S. As previously noted, taking a taxi pretty much negates the cold-factor regarding strappy sandals in winter.

    @ Grandma Death

The Jimmy Choo collection does have excellent pieces! I totally agree! I like especially the bracelets and I would defintely buy the red strappy sandals if it was spring or summer.
Sure, many populations do not experience the harsh Swedish winters but many how many populations have such a sunny climate that they can wear sandals in winter?
I am also not sure if the target group of the Jimmy Choo collection are the starlets in Los Angeles. H&M is not high fashion. It’s clothing for everybody.
I don’t know if starlets in Los Angeles are interested in this kind of fashion.

  13. mareike says:

I see. However, I think the target group that they want to aim are girls that normally don’t buy Jimmy Choo and not celebs that live in Los Angeles. “Normal” girls like me. If that wasn’t the aim why should Jimmy Choo corporate with H&M?
