About Style in Sweden
Who am I?
I am fashion nerd and social scientist who moved from Germany to Sweden in 2007 to study an international Master’s programme in Lund.
Why am I writing about fashion?
Fashion is my passion! I think it is so much more than fabrics that you just put on your body. It reflects different personalities and reveals attitudes of a society for instance towards gender. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of the American Vogue, said once that she knows the headlines of the New York Times if she reads Vogue. I think there is a lot of truth in that statement since fashion expresses feelings and atmospheres. It has a lot to do with culture and politics. Therefore I am not surprised that designers focus on black in times of a financial crisis.
What can you expect in this blog?
Swedish fashion and style is fantastic, special and sometimes also funny. I think Swedish designers are often underappreciated in the global fashion market. Many of them are incredibly creative and a step ahead compared to other European designers. However, this blog is not just about what and who is new and hyped in Sweden. It also connects fashion with culture and aesthetics in particular from my perspective as an immigrant.
My favourites
I love the comic-like style of the Swedish label Minimarket, Popkitten and American designer Marc Jacobs. But I also buy lots of clothes at H&M, Topshop and second hand shops. Generally I like the style of the 1960s and sometimes 1980s. I favour clean-cut clothing over wild experiments and my favourite colours are black, red, blue and green.
