Mini for many. New clothing line from Minimarket.

Friday, July 17th, 2009

My favourite Swedish label is Minimarket. I love the colourful, cartoon-like and very special style of the three sisters Sofie, Pernilla and Jennifer Elvestedt. Unfortunately, Minimarket is quite expensive so that I do not buy the clothes so often.

Therefore I was so incredibly happy when I read in the Swedish ELLE that the creative girls from Minimarket designed a new collection called “mini for many”, which will come out soon. According to ELLE, the fashion line will be younger, simpler and the garments will be sold in more shops.

The best thing is that the clothes look fantastic! At least the few garments that I have found so far.

When I checked the website of Minimarket I spied a further section, “mini for weekday”. I’m wondering if that is some kind of cooperation with the Swedish store chain “Weekday” or if they plan to design a collection that features more everyday fashion. I will keep you informed.

Anyway, here are the first pictures of “mini for many”.

By the way, don’t miss the summer sale. I just bought a very cute skirt from Minimarket for half the price at Mint & Vintage in Stockholm.

Spring. Sun. Sunglasses.

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Spring without some stylish sunglasses in Sweden is like a weekend in Berlin without clubbing. Impossible! It’s getting warmer, the sun is shining and Swedes replace their hats and beanie caps from the winter by some new sunglasses.

Today I found the new sunglasses collection of the Australian brand Le Specs on the homepage of my favourite shop in Stockholm, Mint & Vintage. They are incredibly beautiful and exactly what I like. Retro but fashion-forward and trashy but chic.

The best thing is that they just cost between 499 and 545 crowns. Of course, H&M sunglasses are much cheaper but if you buy other designer sunglasses you normally pay at least twice as much. I find them also much more unique than sunglasses from both H&M’s and expensive brands such as Ray-Ban or Gucci.

In terms of quality they can also keep with the more expensive designer sunglasses since they have 100 percent UV protection and comply with the mandatory requirement of the Australian and New Zealand standards.

I just need these damn sunglasses!!!

Stylish Stewardess hats from Skåne.

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I found some very cool hats on the internet today. They look like the ones that Stewardesses wore during the 1950s. I have never seen similar hats in Sweden before and I find they are interesting and creatively designed accessories for a night out on the town.

Designer Marita Hägg offers on her website small and large Stewardess hats as well as a black line including some very chic and elegant ones. The hats are black, grey, white or leopard patterned so that you can combine them with almost every garment. I find the idea of 1950s Stewardess hats very innovative and at the same time classic and retro.

The only thing that is somehow confusing is the name of the brand, Gothic Airways. Many people probably associate Gothic music and dark clothes with this name and think that these hats do not suit their style. However, I find these hats could suit many more people than just Goths since they look like vintage accessories.

I also have such a hat but I bought it in a small shop in Berlin last year. It’s a black one with pin stripes. If I buy one of the Gothic Airways collection, I probably take this one:

Minimarket meets Alice in Wonderland.

Monday, May 4th, 2009

When we think about fashion we automatically associate it with Paris, Milan or New York. Apart from the low-cost fashion giant H&M’s and some brands such as Cheap Monday, Sweden is not really known for its innovativeness in this branch. However, I find there are a lot of fantastic and very creative Swedish designers who are underappreciated in an international context.

Today, I want to show my favourite one:

mini1

Minimarket’s designers Pernilla, Sofie and Jennifer Elvestedt were inspired by the fairytale Alice in Wonderland when they created their most recent collection. Magician hats, scarves with card game diamonds and pullovers with ladybird patterns are characteristic of Minimarket this season.

You might think now that this is really corny and that you absolutely don’t want to look like a ladybird. I generally agree but I find Minimarket succeeded in taking up the childish and corny theme Alice in Wonderland and translated it into cool, hip and unique clothes.

Here are some examples:

The hat is my favourite piece but I’m a little bit unsure if it’s worth to pay 800 crowns for it. If I buy it I will let you know…

"Recently I’ve been thinking of how much mental space we could create if we collectively agreed to get rid of stereotypes. All of those small compartments we walk around with in our heads would suddenly be cleared away and we’d feel so much lighter. Just think of all of that space for real new perceptions..." READ »
