CTC Approved !!

April 26th, 2010 by maringanti

This was one of my friends status message on Facebook otherday. WTF.. what the helll is this CTC, I asked.

Chary’s Tandoori Chicken.. He grinned :D

Friday night. After a long week of work, its time for some party and good food. Tired of eating these frozen junk food, burgers and pizza. Needed some hot and spicy, Indian chicken desperately.

This is a very simple prep. All we need is 4-5 Chicken drumsticks. Put Slit (a centimeter deep and a centimeter wide) in them.

Some red chilli powder mixed with a spoon of vegetable oil. Apply this mixture in those slits.

Marinate these pieces for half-an-hour. Usually people marinate all over night. But for beasts like us who can never wait, half an hour is good time. Marinade is simple mixture of a cup of gram flour, some garam masala and some chicken masala, red chilli powder, salt to tast, bit of yoghurt to bind these together.

Shove the pieces in a preheated oven at 250 C for 20 min, you have some hot and spicy, juicy chicken legs. Awesome Chicken Tandoori.

CTC was attacked and was complete within 5min it was out of the oven.. and my cam could not have a scope to get a glimpse of it. Putting a pic from internet for you folks..

Top up it up with onions and lemon juice and some black pepper powder. Let me know how this worked out for you!!

Chary’s Kitchen..

April 16th, 2010 by maringanti

Other day, when I was in Copenhagen, was bored with the usual burger and pizzas we ate all through out the trip. Stuffed Pancakes were kind of relief. We found an Indian restaurant to treat our taste buds. It was an authentic Indian restaurant run by a punjabi family unlike the ones we have in and around Stockholm.

This idea struck me then about posting my recipes with some photographs for the swedish here in the Local. Back home, I was the laziest and never used to enter the kitchen. Four years out of home and two years in Sweden.. where we get nothing but meat everywhere, a chef inside me uncovered himself.

Will post some of my experiments.. hoping most of them would be successful.. !! ;)

A hop over copenhagen

April 14th, 2010 by maringanti

Copenhagen..First thing comes to my mind, its windy. Wind that could take me away with it. Flowing all over the face. 12C was the temperature forecast but I was freezing. Running nose made things even worser on the first day.

Very late after I booked the tickets, I learnt that Little Mermaid was on a short trip to China. I wonder what’s there in China.. Everything . everywhere now is being routed to china!! Watever.

I saw an article sometime ago in thelocal. Sweden is the most expensive country in the world. The author might not have visited copenhagen. We went into a eating place. Even Tomato Ketchup costed a krona. Sweden lot lot lot’s better. Infrastructure at its best. The Local S train were similar to Inter city which runs in Sweden. Wide Roads, beautiful old buildings, it was good.

Nightlife is amazing. Rosie n Marie.. gud experience. Danish girls are more easy going than their conservative counterparts in Sweden. Had guuud time out there ;) Partying is cheaper than what we have in Stockholm. Drinks. Entry everything was around 50 bucks.

Few palaces..gardens on the second day before we caught the flight. Sleeping in public transport during the day.. as we were partying all night around was also kind of an “experience”.  Got a wink of the Oresund Bridge as well. Its an amazing structure across the sea.

The sun set was beautiful from the tenth floor of the sixteen storeyed DanCity Hostel  in the heart of the city. Nothing much to roam around in Copenhagen.. a hop over a weekend would be great.

Will come back with more stories from my ongoing Eurotrip Summer 2010;)

Alone in The Dark

April 13th, 2010 by maringanti

My first poem..which I carelessly submitted into a poetry contest.. This won me an international poetry award.. Might be poetry.com or something…going back the memory lanes. Want to share with you guys.

Alone in the dark, no moon, no stars
No ray of light to keep me right

Alone in the dark, I miss all the fun
I used to have with my loved one

Alone in the dark, in the horizons of deep sky
I find an angel asking me to fly

Alone in the dark, I wish I could die
with no shoulder on which I could cry

Alone in the dark, can anyone see my plight
when this lonely night kills me without any fight

Vasa Museum

March 29th, 2010 by maringanti

One of my friend’s friend came along to Stockholm for a short hop. Vasa Museum is everyone suggests for the visitors to go in. Am not “Museum Friendly”, Museums bore me. This one was a different one. It had only one show piece.. The great war ship of Sweden preserved for more than 300 years.

Well, not being a good history student either, I thought this was related to something very recent, world war II kinds. Then, it was my friend who helped me out, who evidently had an interest in both history and museums that Sweden never took part in the World Wars. And it was its great iron and industrial power which Germans respected. “Peace Loving Nation”  – Sweden. That’s seems to be true. The swedish culture, people seems to be more helpful and friendly when I compare my experiences back in Belgium and Germany.

The huge ship occupied the main hall, spanning almost four floors. Each of them having a different exhibits of the things used by the people then, some pictures making a story of it. Skeletons of the kings. As one of my Swedish colleague explains, this is very dear to the Swedish. One of the great warships ever build but unfortunately which never sailed.

Some pics of some of you who still yet to visit the great warship, Vasa..

At the Entrace of the VasaMuseum.

Nordic Museum and Vasa Musuem are close by. This was at the Entrace of the Nordic Musuem.

Magnificent, Vasa ship. Its a wonder that the wood is still intact after so many years underneath the sea..!

As the sun sets!!

March 22nd, 2010 by maringanti

It was a terrible winter for all of us this time around. Previous year, I was in Molndal and was not accustomed to snowfall which happens in Stockholm. Light drizzling rain, temperatures around zero was fair enough to live with.

The day I got here from my trip from India, it was a shocking -22. Worst winter in years is what I hear from my Swedish Colleagues, but, it was more of awestruck situation for us. From blazing hot weather back in India, where we have the hot air blowing from the car’s window, I was shivering under three layers of cloth in the taxi way back to my apartment.

Five minutes wait in a bus-stop.. was a hell..great relief to see some sunshine atlast. Read somewhere that Feb is the silent month in Sweden.. ;)

March, love is in the air. Guitarists playing on the street..people are out again in the otherwise deserted, snow covered streets. A romantic kiss on the Gamlastan brige with a backdrop of City Tower, Stockholm…I could not resist but to click my camera on..:) ;)

Romantic Kiss as the sun sets

Clouds opening up now. .Waiting for a splendid summer this time around..

Am going Home!!

December 14th, 2009 by maringanti

Sitting in this dull lit room, with a blinking headlight. Alone in a 1bhk apartment, looking at the clock ticking on the church tower from my bedroom window. All day today, was packing stuff, and cleaning the place. Sitting here on bed, with my laptop, after a small nap, just thinking how it would be being back home..

Its been more than two or might be 4 hrs now, I engrossed into a series, the murky surroundings went darker and darker, there were no more than couple of guys whom I found walking, Dark, lonely, cold weather – Sweden.

India.. what would be few things I would notice once I get back there..

Hot sun, rather at this point I can say warmth in the sun, at last, some good bright sun. Lovely!!

“Kidhar jaana hain!! Saheb” Taxi walah’s first greeting. Am home.

Crowded roads, traffic, hey, I almost forgot, Horns playing all around..

There are people still, you are not lonely no more. The buses, the taxis, the rail, the airport everything is buzzing, colors, lights, sounds, Am home.

Rules but no rules, papers, wall paintings, ad boards, huge markets, Am home.

Waiting for that one moment, still waiting for that one moment, the longest part of my journey,

on taxi..to my home. My sweet lil home, to my parents, bro.. that would be longest wait, the last few minutes, a hug, Am home.

At last, will be home.. its just more 40 hours.. countdown starts..!!

Does Swedes leave their kids outside??

December 1st, 2009 by maringanti

It was FIKA time in the office today. Just trying to bridge the gaps, we arranged this new custom in office. It was all new for us, a formal informal meeting..is what I could get out of this. Usual chai breaks (Chai means Tea in Hindi) with vadapav and pakora (Indian snacks), which we are accustomed to.. are totally unplanned, random. A formal invitation, and on dot scheduled FIKA.

However, it helped the cause though. Talking about various things, swedish culture, Indian way of looking into it.. Discussion started over a cake with Safron – A christmas special – one of my Swedish counterpart explained. A very rare and costly flower, only used during Christmas. We, in India, use Saffron in milk for pregnant ladies. People in India are dark, Saffron in milk, there is a myth that the kids who will be born, will be fair..:)

Admist all the conversations below was one which I wanted to share…

“Its 30 in India, as it is raining, otherwise its 40″ usual weather topic which will be the first to come up in any informal meeting. We boasting about how high temperatures can go, and Swedes about how low temperatures can go here..

“We heard some where that you leave kids outside so that they get accustomed to weather..is it true?” one of us asked, seriously “I cannot stand more than five minutes outside these days”

“If the kids fell asleep, when they are outside, they suffocated indoors. They get up and raise tantrums..its better to leave them outside..let them sleep there”

“Unattended!” Shocked, face red, one of us almost screamed. He was a father of 8 month old baby. Terrified by the thought of it. “I cannot leave my child for more than five minutes”

“Its ok, we can leave them and keep an eye on them from kitchen window, they are ok, jackets keep them warm” casual reply, horrified all of us

“You know what, this is a crime in India, police will keep you in Jail, if you attempt to do this in India..”

Everyone laughed..

“Are you serious?” still not convinced “Hope you are not kidding? I never saw that any where here in Stockholm” astonished.

“Yes, they will be fine, even we put the oldies outside, in the chair , in the garden, they sleep there”.

All of us were looking each other..such wide differences. In India, its all different. Parents take care of their kids, concerned about every moment of them. Raise them, and take care of them even in their teens. Parents are taken care by kids with the same level of attention and care in their late age. Its a different bonding all together.

But really, were they joking..made us fools? Does Swedes really leave their kids outside??

Googling around…A similar thought from an American..
