Picture the scene. Four friends sat at a table, in a club where loud music is being played. Then a group of people came over and tell the four friends to “Ssshhh”, this despite the friends being unusually quiet.
Then one of the people complained that we were “looking tired”. Then to facilitate the amount of insults they decided to say that we should not buy Sambuca, as it was “Bad for your health”, they were at the end, almost aggressively bumping into us and muttering random drunk comments towards the four of us.
This was last night in my local pub. It’s a lovely bar, but sometimes I just don’t understand the mentality of some people. One thing I have found since living in Sweden is that many, myself included, have a few drinks at home before heading out, as it’s not cheap to drink here. But some people just get into such a mess that they are uncontrollable before the night actually has begun.
Sweden has a different culture to back home in the UK, a society that is better than ours in my opinion. The purchasing of alcohol is a little ridiculous (Systenbolaget), but it’s something that you have to accept.
On the rare occasions where I have seen problems, the staff handled it superbly. Yet it does concern me that when you walk into a bar on a Saturday night and the only bar staff are two young girls with no door staff or any supervised help.
Nothing happened in the end, but if it did it would increase the question about the level of drinking before going out in my mind. Not sure if any others have had any experiences they would like to share.
All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable night. Kudos to all ho braved the -16 temperature!
