Hi Sarah

My advice would be to maybe take your time whilst your in the UK to learn as fast as you can. Open University, night school, Skype lessons if you want to are under Verbal Planet and I thoroughly reccomend a teacher called Jessie.

If you have 6-12 months before the move and you really commit to it you will be in a much better place than arriving with none.

Thanks Dean I have borrowed some Swedish dvds from the local library my hubby who is Swedish is mostly working here all the time he trys to teach me bits but I find the dvd helpful. I must say admire you for moving from UK all alone. I'm not that worried about myself it's mainly the kids, hope they pick Swedish language up and make good friends at International school. I am a Housing Officer for the Council here I guess I won't find anything similar in Sweden hubby is a pcso here so he will apply for Swedish police. IJust won't be use to being unemployed guess things take time. Yes you're wright it takes some getting use to from a house to apartment.

Hi Sarah

It took me about a year to get to conversational mode and 18 months to be what I deem to be fluent (others may disagree!). If you come here and get a perssonnummer (personal number) you can attend SFI classes that are aimed at those who have just moved here to learn the language. I did this but also took private lessons once a week via Skype. If you can't speak the language then yes it will be difficult to find a part-time job but I do know those who have done it. It really all depends on how quick you can grasp the language.

hi been reading your blogs great stuff. My husband is swedish from malmo his family are all there, he has been living in UK and working here for ten years.I am British born my 3 kids are all British born and full time school. hubby thinking of moving to sweden as he loves Sweden we have visited Sweden a couple of times, and must admit it is peaceful compared to uk just worried about leaving my home etc. kids will go international school heard swedish schools are top free university unlike uk you have to pay high university fees each year. How long did it take you to learn Swedish language at Swedish class can you ask questions in English? As i've been told they are strict in class and only allowed to speak Swedish?. Will it be difficult for me to find a part time job in Sweden if I don't know Swedish language?
